Shipping Coordinator

The Shipping Coordinator role at Sotheby's involves providing integrated expertise and exceptional service for logistics-related activities, ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of property in compliance with all associated laws and regulations. The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Shipping Coordinator include arranging shipping and logistics requirements for all property, liaising with vendors to procure and coordinate logistics services, and monitoring and executing quote requests. The role also involves responding to and resolving shipping and logistics inquiries, obtaining quotes from shippers, and assessing the requirements of proposed shipments. Additionally, the coordinator will apply for necessary licenses, allocate tariffs to imported or exported property, and monitor the progress of shipments. They will also coordinate interoffice transfers and prepare customs documents, ensuring accurate and timely submission. To qualify for this role, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree and 3-5+ years of experience in shipping roles, specifically in Germany and Switzerland. Deep expertise in shipping and logistics, including customs procedures, packing methods, transportation methods, and regulatory compliance, is essential. Fluency in English and German is mandatory, with French being a strong advantage. Prior experience with SAP is required, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, client-focused, and deadline-driven environment is crucial. Candidates must be proactive communicators, comfortable speaking with clients, and have excellent client service skills. Nice-to-have skills include prior experience with fine art shipping and proficiency in additional foreign languages. The role may require flexibility to work overtime and weekend hours when necessary.
