As a Software Developer (Java & Angular) you will join CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, to modernise the Geodetic Metrology data‑management system. The project replaces legacy Oracle APEX/PL/SQL tools with a new Java Spring Boot back‑end and an Angular front‑end, while also leading the redesign of a critical application used in the Accelerator Complex. Your everyday work will involve analysing existing APEX pages, PL/SQL packages and related processes to map business logic and data flows. You will build RESTful services with Spring Boot, create the Angular user interface, and write automated tests that follow CERN's quality standards. The role covers the full software development lifecycle, from gathering requirements and designing solutions to coding, testing and delivering, and follows an agile methodology. Regular interaction with end‑users and close collaboration with IT and multidisciplinary teams are essential to ensure the software meets current and future needs. To succeed, you need a solid background in software engineering, with hands‑on experience in Java development using Spring Boot and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as Angular. You must be comfortable with concurrent and multithreaded programming, and have applied software quality practices including code reviews, unit testing, clean‑code principles and tools like SonarQube. Experience designing scalable services, working with CI/CD pipelines, and deploying cloud‑native solutions on Kubernetes is required, as is strong expertise in Oracle Database, PL/SQL and the Spring ecosystem. A good understanding of Oracle APEX is considered an asset. The position is based at CERN with a hybrid work model, offering a 40‑hour week, a 24‑month contract (extendable to 36 months), and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, pension, relocation support and language training. The team values optimism, constructive attitudes and proactive problem solving, fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives drive scientific breakthroughs. What the role asks for: - National of CERN Member or Associate Member State. - Master's degree with 2‑6 years experience or PhD with ≤3 years. - Proven Java development with Spring Boot and Angular/TypeScript. - Experience with concurrent and multithreaded programming. - Experience in software quality assurance (code review, unit tests, SonarQube). - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud‑native Kubernetes. - Strong Oracle Database/PLSQL knowledge and Spring framework expertise. - Nice‑to‑have: knowledge of Oracle APEX.
