Engineering Manager, Software and Systems

Hexagon Mining develops technologies that tackle the toughest problems in surface and underground extraction, offering tools for planning, operational control and safety across the whole mining workflow. Their portfolio spans desktop and cloud applications as well as tightly integrated hardware‑software systems installed in trucks, shovels and drills. The Engineering Manager will head a dedicated engineering group that creates and maintains a defined product, platform or technology area, ensuring it stays robust, innovative and aligned with customer needs. In this position the manager will steer technical direction, evaluate design proposals, check effort estimates and mentor contributors to guarantee high‑quality deliveries. Close collaboration with Product Management and other internal partners is required to translate business and client challenges into usable, maintainable and supportable solutions. Accountability covers meeting agreed‑upon scope, schedule and quality targets, up‑holding architectural standards, documentation and governance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team. The role demands fluent written and spoken English, proven experience in leading engineering teams, whether through people, technical or project leadership, and a minimum of five years building complex, long‑lived, customer‑facing software. A solid grasp of contemporary software engineering disciplines, including system architecture, design principles, testing strategies, DevOps practices and delivery pipelines, is essential to guide the group effectively. Additional experience that would be advantageous includes work with hybrid software‑hardware solutions such as robotics or industrial automation, handling legacy platforms and large‑scale technical debt, and possessing domain expertise in areas like robotics, automotive, GNSS, optimisation or data science. Familiarity with metrics that track delivery quality and organisational health, as well as a track record of driving organisational change and scaling engineering groups, are also valued.
