Senior Commodity and Freight Analyst - Tankers

The Senior Commodity & Freight Analyst – Tankers joins the Ag & Trading enterprise, where the focus is on grain and oilseed markets, and will apply sophisticated trading analytics to shape strategic decisions around risk, margin and asset use. In this position you will keep worldwide models and scenario sets up‑to‑date so the team can foresee supply‑demand imbalances in the tanker shipping market. You will manage the top‑tier tanker analysis, including handling AIS data from external and internal sources, and spearhead projects that deepen understanding of freight fundamentals. Findings are presented each week and each quarter in structured forums, while ad‑hoc queries are answered promptly. Continuous improvement of analysis and its communication is expected, as is delivering tradable insights, supply‑and‑demand assessments, and scenario building that feed into the desk’s trading plan. Collaboration with oil trading, analytics groups and the global freight analytics team on cross‑commodity projects is also part of the role. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, science, economics or a related field and at least five years of experience in oil or tanker markets. Proficiency in Python, strong numerical ability and a genuine enthusiasm for turning data into actionable intelligence are essential. Candidates must be able to explain complex ideas in clear, non‑technical language, demonstrate commercial insight, formulate independent viewpoints, and adapt to shifting business needs. A master’s degree and prior work with advanced modeling, coding, data‑science or big‑data management in a trading setting are advantageous.
