Medtronic, a worldwide leader in healthcare technology, seeks an Equipment Development Engineer for a 24‑month contract at its Tolochenaz site. The company's mission is to relieve pain, restore health and extend life, and it develops innovative medical devices used by millions of patients each year. In this role you will join the equipment engineering team that delivers custom capital equipment for the company's medical‑device manufacturing lines. Your daily work will revolve around turning the Voice of Operations and Process into clear technical specifications. You will help draft User Requirement Specifications and Functional Specifications, and take part in early risk assessments. Collaboration with machine‑builder partners is essential: you will attend design reviews, evaluate mechanical assemblies, electrical schematics, control logic and safety features. You will also lead Factory Acceptance Testing at the supplier's premises, checking PLC/HMI logic, safety interlocks, sensors, vision functions and baseline cycle times before the equipment is shipped. Once the machines arrive in Tolochenaz, you will coordinate delivery, connect utilities, run Site Acceptance Tests, manage vendor punch‑list items and verify that the installation meets all safety and facility requirements. Finally, you will write and execute Installation Qualification protocols in line with ISO 13485, compile as‑built documentation, spare‑parts lists and maintenance manuals, and support training of maintenance and process‑engineering teams before Operational and Performance Qualification phases. The position requires a university degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and between two and four years of hands‑on experience in equipment engineering or automated machinery, preferably within a regulated sector such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals or precision engineering. You must possess a solid practical understanding of fully automated and semi‑automated production equipment, including mechatronics, programmable logic controllers, robotics, pneumatics and vision systems. Direct involvement in key development milestones, User Requirement Specification, Factory Acceptance Test, Site Acceptance Test and Installation Qualification, is also mandatory. Fluency in both French and English, written and spoken, is required to interact with internal teams and external vendors. Additional, desirable experience includes having worked for a custom equipment manufacturer, machine builder or automation integrator, which provides insight into mechanical and electrical build processes and vendor‑side dynamics. Familiarity with 3‑D CAD tools, specifically SolidWorks, and knowledge of machinery safety and CE compliance standards are also valued. These nice‑to‑have skills can help you integrate equipment more efficiently and ensure regulatory alignment. The role is based at Medtronic's Tolochenaz campus in Switzerland, offering a competitive salary ranging from CHF 92,000 to CHF 138,000 and a flexible benefits package. You will be part of a global organization that values purpose‑driven work, professional growth and the impact of improving patient outcomes worldwide. What the role asks for: - Degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering - 2–4 years equipment engineering experience in regulated industry - Practical knowledge of automated and semi‑automated production equipment - Experience with mechatronics, PLCs, robotics, pneumatics, vision systems - Hands‑on involvement in URS, FAT, SAT, IQ milestones - Fluency in French (written and spoken) - Fluency in English (written and spoken) - Nice‑to‑have: Experience with custom equipment manufacturer or OEM - Nice‑to‑have: Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD software - Nice‑to‑have: Knowledge of machinery safety and CE standards
