Oceyon is a maritime‑exploration and recovery firm that turns deep‑sea treasure hunting into a data‑driven, compliance‑first industry. By merging archival intelligence, artificial intelligence, cutting‑edge survey tools and rigorous ESG standards, the company safeguards cultural heritage while retrieving lost assets for institutional partners worldwide. The team is expanding its regulatory and operational footprint and seeks a seasoned Maritime Archaeologist to strengthen its core expertise. The role sits at the crossroads of historical research, legal compliance and offshore field work. Daily tasks involve digging into archives and historic trade routes to pinpoint shipwrecks, evaluating their archaeological value and drafting site‑assessment reports that feed operational decisions. The archaeologist will also liaise with coastal‑state authorities, prepare the documentation required for permits and licences, and maintain ongoing communication with national heritage agencies, museums and academic bodies. On‑site duties include joining marine survey campaigns, supervising archaeological aspects of recovery missions, advising on protection and handling procedures, and helping shape survey methodologies. Finally, the position requires producing technical assessments, compliance paperwork and ESG‑related heritage reports while contributing to Oceyon's internal best‑practice guides and its advisory network. Candidates must hold a Master's degree or PhD in Maritime Archaeology, Underwater Archaeology, Archaeology or a closely related discipline, and bring at least five years of professional experience in maritime or underwater archaeology. Proven involvement in shipwreck research or underwater cultural‑heritage projects is essential, as is solid knowledge of international maritime‑heritage frameworks and permitting processes. Experience collaborating with government or heritage authorities is also required. Preferred attributes include hands‑on offshore or marine fieldwork, strong archival research skills and familiarity with survey technologies such as sonar, ROVs, AUVs or subsea imaging. An understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape surrounding shipwreck recovery, the ability to work within multidisciplinary technical teams and excellent written reporting in English (additional languages are a plus) are valued. The position offers the chance to operate at the leading edge of maritime exploration, travel internationally, and take part in offshore missions that blend academic rigor with commercial execution.
