mimic robotics is a cutting-edge physical AI company specializing in the development of general-purpose dexterous manipulation technology. The company, founded in 2024 by researchers from ETH Zurich, has pioneered Video-Action Models for robotics and created in-house dexterous hand hardware. mimic operates from offices in Zurich and San Francisco, employing a team of world-class researchers. The role of Senior Mechanical Engineer (Wearable Devices) involves working on the mechanical and human-centered design of the U-Mimic wearable data collection device. This device is used by factory workers to gather high-quality hand-motion and force data. The engineer will be responsible for key mechanical and ergonomic decisions, ensuring the device balances accuracy, comfort, robustness, and real-world usability as it transitions from early prototypes to a scalable product. The main day-to-day responsibilities include owning the wearable's mechanical architecture, integrating sensors and components, and collaborating with electrical and firmware engineers. The role also involves rapid prototyping, testing, and iterating based on user feedback, as well as setting the mechanical design direction for scaled production. Additionally, the engineer will work with external suppliers and manufacturing partners as needed. Nice-to-have skills include experience with flexible electronics, soft goods, and silicones, as well as knowledge of tactile, hand, or force sensing. Experience in taking hardware from prototype to production, including certification, and working with external manufacturers or suppliers is also beneficial. The role is based in Zurich, where the team is growing and focused on innovative research and development. What the role asks for: - Strong mechanical engineering background with experience developing products that interact closely with the human body. - Experience in wearables, prosthetics, orthotics, exoskeletons, haptics, medical devices, or a related field. - Strong understanding of ergonomics, variable body geometry, comfort, and usability. - Experience integrating sensors or electronics into mechanical systems. - Strong CAD and prototyping skills with experience in iterative hardware development. - Ability to independently solve open-ended engineering problems and make architectural decisions.
