Electrical Design Technician (EN-EL-DDO-2026-218-GRAE)

The Electrical Design Technician will join CERN’s Electrical Engineering Group, which manages the power‑distribution network, fibre‑optic links and signal and DC‑power cabling for the accelerator complex. Working inside the Design and Documentation Office, the role supports senior designers by creating and adapting electrical schematics and by contributing to low‑voltage distribution projects. Typical tasks involve producing design drawings with CAD tools, drafting calculation notes using ElecCalc, Caneco BT or comparable software, and compiling bills of material and cabling tables in Excel. The technician also updates Excel‑based design templates and assists with quality‑related activities such as managing the printing office and maintaining documentation standards. Candidates must have up to two years of professional experience after graduating in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, and hold at least a general secondary education diploma. Required expertise includes designing low‑voltage distribution networks, performing cable sizing and selectivity studies, and generating AutoCAD (or similar) drawings. An intermediate command of Microsoft Excel and the ability to communicate in English or French, with a willingness to learn the other language, are also essential. Additional assets are experience with lighting‑design tools like DIALux, familiarity with E‑PLAN or similar programs, and knowledge of medium‑voltage network design. Even applicants lacking direct design‑office background may be considered if they demonstrate motivation. The position is based at CERN, offering the chance to develop practical low‑voltage design skills within a world‑leading research environment.
