Robot Platform Engineer - Humanoid (human)

NEURA Robotics is creating 4NE1, a cognitive humanoid robot intended to function safely and autonomously in everyday settings. The company seeks a Robot Platform Engineer to join the Humanoid team and build the software foundation that links hardware, controls, middleware and applications into a production‑ready platform. In this position you will craft and sustain the software abstraction layer that exposes the robot’s actuators, joints, limbs, hands, sensors and safety mechanisms to higher‑level control and planning modules. You will work closely with locomotion, whole‑body control, manipulation and perception engineers to integrate components across the stack, design communication pathways using DDS‑based systems, and support middleware such as ROS 2, Dora or other distributed frameworks. Responsibilities also include defining the operational state machine (boot through recovery), managing mode transitions, implementing watchdog and health‑monitoring logic, developing gRPC‑based control services, and creating integration tests that run in simulators like MuJoCo and Isaac Sim as well as on physical hardware. The role requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, software engineering, mechatronics or a related discipline. You must be proficient in modern C++ (C++17+), have solid Linux development experience—including multithreading, debugging, profiling and performance tuning—and be comfortable with real‑time or latency‑sensitive applications. Experience with DDS communication stacks, hardware‑near software, robot bring‑up, state‑machine design, gRPC/Protocol Buffers, containerised development (Docker, Nix, Podman) and modern CI/CD practices is essential, as are strong communication skills for cross‑disciplinary collaboration. Preferred but not required experience includes prior work on humanoid robots. No additional location or team details are provided.
