Lonza is expanding its drug‑product division in Basel, Switzerland, and is looking for a Senior Scientist Physico‑Chemical Quality Control. The company operates worldwide, delivering medicines through a network of more than thirty sites, and emphasizes collaboration, accountability and innovation. In this fully site‑based position the scientist will independently carry out routine physico‑chemical analyses such as U/HPLC (including SEC, IEX, RP and surfactant modes), CE‑SDS, icIEF, protein quantification and standard compendial tests (pH, colour, clarity, subvisible particles) on biologics, large‑molecule intermediates and small‑molecule drugs. Daily duties also include preparing mobile phases, calibrating pH meters and balances, and approving these basic laboratory operations. The role requires proactive troubleshooting of equipment problems, driving investigations and suggesting corrective actions. Maintaining a clean, audit‑ready laboratory through inventory control and 6S practices, overseeing equipment maintenance and re‑qualification as Instrument Responsible Person, and contributing to SOP updates are also essential. The scientist will mentor colleagues, deliver training on purity and identity methods, and support the onboarding of new laboratory staff. Applicants must hold a recognised laboratory technician qualification (EFZ, HF, CTA, BTA, PTA or a BSc./MSc.) and bring at least five years of analytical testing experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech or chemical industry. Demonstrated work in a cGMP‑regulated environment, especially in physico‑chemical analytics, with accurate reporting and documentation according to ALCOA++ principles, is required. Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory; any additional language skills are considered a plus.
