Global Medical Director Gastroenterology

The Global Medical Director – Gastroenterology will steer the company’s worldwide medical agenda for the GI portfolio, working alongside the Established Pharmaceuticals Division’s Medical Affairs Leadership Team to align scientific direction with patient needs. In this position the incumbent will craft and execute the GI therapeutic strategy, turning scientific insights into actionable plans that include research priorities, publication roadmaps, real‑world evidence initiatives, and digital outreach. Responsibilities also cover overseeing global medical research projects—ranging from investigator‑initiated studies to post‑marketing and epidemiologic work—while serving on the Scientific Review Committee to vet clinical activities. The role demands close partnership with regional medical directors, key opinion leaders, and scientific societies, as well as participation in product safety oversight, label revisions, and compliance with regulatory standards. Candidates must hold an advanced life‑science qualification—preferably an M.D., but a PharmD, Ph.D., or MSc is acceptable—paired with extensive pharmaceutical experience (five years for MDs, seven for PharmDs/PhDs, ten for MSc holders). A solid background in Medical Affairs or clinical research, familiarity with trial design, safety monitoring, and regulatory frameworks, and proven ability to engage opinion leaders are essential. Fluency in English is required; additional languages are advantageous. Desirable attributes include prior exposure to country‑level or regional medical functions, a servant‑leadership style, strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills, and commercial insight within pharma.
