The Senior Platform Engineer, Control‑M will lead the design, administration and operational support of enterprise‑wide workload automation services. Working within a technology‑focused organisation, the engineer ensures that critical batch processes and data workflows are reliably scheduled, monitored and executed across the business. The role sits at the intersection of application, database and infrastructure teams, contributing to platform reliability, security and continuous improvement while also providing limited first‑line backup assistance to DBA colleagues. Day‑to‑day duties involve building and maintaining Control‑M scheduling environments, establishing standards and operational controls, and creating job definitions, calendars, dependencies and workflows. The engineer monitors batch execution, reacts to failures and alerts, and prioritises business‑critical workloads. They troubleshoot complex cross‑platform issues, support automation across Linux, Windows, databases and file‑transfer systems, and develop scripts to streamline deployment and validation. Additional responsibilities include documenting technical solutions, maintaining runbooks, participating in incident, problem and change management, and supporting platform upgrades, migrations and resilience enhancements. The position requires solid hands‑on experience designing, configuring and administering Control‑M or a comparable enterprise scheduler. Candidates must possess deep knowledge of job scheduling concepts, dependencies, calendars, alerts, and have a proven track record supporting batch workloads on Windows, Linux and database platforms. Strong troubleshooting and incident‑management capabilities are essential, as is familiarity with scripting and automation to enable repeatable operational processes. A basic understanding of SQL and routine database troubleshooting is needed for first‑line backup support. The role also expects a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience, typically backed by six to ten years of relevant work. While not mandatory, familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices is considered advantageous, as is experience coordinating technical projects or guiding others. The ideal candidate demonstrates clear documentation skills, effective communication with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and a collaborative, improvement‑driven mindset. Ongoing professional development and relevant industry certifications are encouraged to stay current with evolving platform reliability, security and resilience standards. What the role asks for: - Practical experience designing, configuring, administering Control‑M or equivalent - Strong knowledge of job scheduling, dependencies, calendars and alerts - Experience supporting batch workloads on Windows, Linux and databases - Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills - Familiarity with scripting and automation for operational processes - Basic SQL and database troubleshooting for first‑line backup support - Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience - Nice‑to‑have: awareness of CI/CD and DevOps practices
