Roche's Computational Sciences Centre of Excellence is looking for a Senior Computational & Applied AI Scientist (Real‑World Data). Roche develops transformative medicines and strives to make healthcare accessible now and for future generations. The centre supports Roche's Research and Early Development units by fostering data‑driven, digitally skilled science across the organisation. In this role you will lead the design and execution of high‑impact analyses that draw on real‑world healthcare sources such as electronic health records, claims, registries and linked clinical or molecular datasets. You will translate scientific questions into robust analytical pipelines, generate insights on disease mechanisms, patient sub‑populations, biomarkers and treatment outcomes, and integrate these findings with clinical, genomic or other molecular information. A parallel focus is the creation of AI‑enabled tools and agentic workflows that automate and scale parts of the analysis process, including reusable components, tool‑calling agents and structured outputs that can be adopted by multiple projects. The position requires a PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, bioinformatics, computer science or computational biology) and at least two years of professional experience in pharmaceutical or biotech research and development. You must have hands‑on experience with real‑world health data, a solid grasp of data quality, bias and suitability, and a track record of applying statistical and machine‑learning methods to biomedical data while critically assessing assumptions and performance. Strong scientific judgment, analytical acumen and the ability to communicate and collaborate across data‑science, engineering and biomedical teams are essential. A growth mindset and enthusiasm for emerging computational technologies, including generative and agentic AI, are also required. The team operates globally within the Computational Medicine department, collaborating closely with scientists, data engineers and computational experts to ensure that both analytical methods and AI solutions are scientifically rigorous and technically sound. While the posting does not specify a particular location, the role offers the chance to influence Roche's data‑driven culture and contribute to broader scientific initiatives that shape the future of healthcare research. What the role asks for: - PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Computational Biology - Minimum 2 years experience in pharma/biotech R&D or drug development - Hands‑on work with real‑world healthcare data (EHR, claims, registries) - Understanding of data quality, bias, limitations, fit‑for‑purpose use - Experience applying statistical and machine‑learning methods to health data - Ability to evaluate methodological assumptions, performance and limitations - Strong scientific and analytical judgment - Proven collaboration and communication across data, engineering and biomedical teams - Nice‑to‑have: experience building production‑grade AI agents or agentic systems
