Postdoctoral Scientist – Vascularized Kidney Organoids (at the Institute of Human Biology (IHB))

Roche’s Institute of Human Biology, part of the Pharma Research and Early Development division, is a leading hub for creating human model systems that mirror physiology and disease. The institute bridges academic discovery with industrial application to accelerate transformative medicines, and this postdoctoral position focuses on building vascularized kidney organoids that can serve drug‑discovery and safety efforts. The fellow will lead the creation of iPSC‑derived kidney organoids, emphasizing tissue specification and maturation, and will design engineered culture platforms that enable vascular perfusion and promote further development. Close collaboration with stem‑cell biologists will be required to unravel nephron maturation and cell‑cell communication, while the ultimate aim is to turn these biological insights into functional, predictive models for human kidney safety. Candidates must hold a PhD earned within the past three years and possess a proven record in iPSC‑derived 3D tissue models or organoids. The role demands scientific ambition and the capacity to generate new concepts rather than follow existing protocols. Applicants should be prepared to provide a comprehensive CV, publication list, two professional references, and official proof of their doctorate. Experience in bioengineering or microfluidics is desirable, as is a strong background in developmental biology with expertise in kidney, vascular, or related organ systems.
