Director, Commercial Development Oligonucleotides

Lonza is seeking a Director of Commercial Development for its oligonucleotide business, based in Basel, Switzerland, with relocation support available for qualified candidates and their families. In this high‑visibility, customer‑facing position you will help translate scientific breakthroughs into marketable therapies while steering the growth of Lonza’s oligonucleotide service portfolio. Your daily work will involve shaping and executing the commercial strategy, expanding market reach, acquiring new customers and driving revenue. You will act as the technical authority during client meetings, conferences and strategic dialogues, and work with Marketing to craft technical content, value propositions and thought‑leadership pieces. The role also requires spotting market opportunities, differentiators and emerging trends, and partnering closely with Sales, Operations, site leadership, R&D, portfolio management and senior executives to guide technology choices, process development routes and commercialization plans. The position demands a degree in life sciences, engineering, chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical sciences or a related discipline, with an advanced degree or MBA viewed favorably. Candidates must bring extensive experience in CDMO, biopharmaceutical or life‑science settings, particularly in commercial or business‑development functions, and possess deep knowledge of oligonucleotide development, manufacturing or commercialization. Strong strategic thinking, program‑management and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to influence across complex matrix structures and lead cross‑functional teams. Excellent communication, executive‑level presence and a willingness to travel roughly 40 % of the time are also required.
