Automation Engineer MES/DeltaV

Lonza is looking for an Automation Engineer focused on MES and DeltaV to join its biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in Visp, Switzerland. The position is fully on‑site, with relocation help offered for qualified candidates and their families, and it supports the company’s mission to produce medicines that meet the highest safety and quality expectations. In this role you will create, install and qualify manufacturing execution system recipes as well as DeltaV control logic that underpin reliable drug‑production processes. Daily tasks involve close cooperation with manufacturing, process development, automation, engineering and quality groups to guarantee smooth system integration, rapid issue resolution, and uninterrupted plant performance. You will also produce and keep up‑to‑date technical records, deliver user training, and lead initiatives that refine automation approaches and overall process efficiency. Participation in the rollout of new digital manufacturing tools is also expected. The ideal candidate has a background in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing environments that are heavily regulated. Proven expertise with MES platforms such as Werum PAS‑X, Rockwell PharmaSuite or similar, and hands‑on experience with Emerson DeltaV or comparable distributed control systems are required. A solid grasp of GMP rules, computerized system validation and qualification practices is essential, together with strong analytical abilities to diagnose complex technical problems. Effective communication and teamwork skills are a must, as is a degree in bioprocess, biotechnology, automation, electrical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
