What qualifications do you need for a talent role in Switzerland?

The classic path leads via the HRSE HR Assistant certificate and the Federal PET Diploma as HR Specialist, supplemented by recruiting-specific certificates.

For entry-level positions in talent acquisition, an EFZ (Commercial Employee EFZ) plus the HRSE HR Assistant certificate is usually sufficient. Anyone who wants to manage vacancies independently should hold the Federal PET Diploma as HR Specialist with a focus on HR consulting or recruitment. For leadership positions in talent management, many job postings require the Advanced Federal PET Diploma as Head of Human Resources or a CAS/MAS in Human Resources Management from a university of applied sciences.

State the qualification exactly as it appears on the certificate, including the examining body and year - for example, 'HR Specialist with Federal PET Diploma, HRSE, 2020' rather than just 'HR training'. Supplement foreign diplomas with a note on recognition by the SBFI or a level classification, otherwise the HR department will not be able to place your application correctly.

Score additional points with field-specific certificates that count specifically in the talent field: aptitude assessment (Hogan, Insights, PI), certified interview techniques, LinkedIn Recruiter, sourcing courses or training on revDSG in the application process. These credentials show that you make selection decisions in a methodologically sound and legally compliant way.

How do you back up your recruiting experience with numbers?

Describe volume, funnel metrics and quality figures instead of lists of tasks.

For each position, state how many vacancies you managed in parallel and per year, which occupational fields these covered and at which hierarchical level. A sentence such as '135 vacancies per year, from apprenticeships to management positions, including 40% hard-to-fill profiles in automation' says more than 'responsible for the entire recruitment process'. Also mention the size of the organisation and whether you worked in in-house recruiting or at a staffing agency with a SECO licence.

Use the metrics that are standard in the talent field: time-to-hire, time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, offer acceptance rate, direct sourcing rate, source of hire and early turnover. Show a before-and-after figure with a time frame, for example 'time-to-hire reduced from 62 to 38 days over 12 months' - this turns a claim into a result.

Add talent management experience, as many Swiss job postings require both: the number of talent reviews conducted, succession profiles managed, assessment centres or onboarding programmes introduced, with retention rate after 12 months. Also name the systems used (SAP SuccessFactors, Umantis, Refline, Ostendis, Prospective), as employers frequently filter specifically by these ATS platforms.

How long should the CV be - and should it include a photo?

Two pages, a professional portrait photo and a complete application dossier are the norm in Switzerland.

Keep the CV to two A4 pages, or a maximum of three if you have more than twelve years of experience. Summarise older positions in a single line. As a talent professional, you will be judged by your own application dossier: typos, unexplained gaps or a cluttered layout stand out twice as much in your case.

A professional portrait photo is still customary in Switzerland and expected for HR roles, although it remains optional. Also standard are year of birth, place of residence, citizenship or permit type (C, B, L, cross-border commuter G), as well as details on availability and notice period. List references as 'available upon request' and obtain consent in advance - this reflects your own revDSG practice.

Complete the dossier with a cover letter, reference letters and diplomas in a single PDF with a descriptive file name. Keep the CV ATS-readable: clear headings, no tables with nested columns, job titles in common usage such as 'Talent Acquisition Specialist' or 'Recruiter', and salary expectations only if requested (then as annual gross salary, for example CHF 95'000 at 100%).

Nadia Brunner

Talent Acquisition & Talent Management Specialist, HR Specialist with Federal PET Diploma

Talent specialist with 9 years of experience in direct sourcing and succession planning for tech, finance and trade profiles in German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland. Responsible for 120-150 vacancies per year across the entire recruiting cycle, including the notification obligation for vacancies via Job-Room and work permits (L/B/C, cross-border commuter G). Builds talent pools, structured interview processes and talent reviews that measurably reduce time-to-hire and turnover.

What sets me apart

Direct sourcing instead of waiting on job ads: Builds Boolean and LinkedIn Recruiter searches for hard-to-fill profiles (PLC programming, tax consulting, nursing HF) and fills 54% of positions without recruitment agencies - saving around CHF 210'000 in placement fees per year.

Compliance in Swiss recruiting: Knows the notification obligation for vacancies (8 calendar days, Job-Room), AVG requirements for temporary staffing, the GAV Personalverleih (collective labour agreement for staff leasing) and permit deadlines for third-country nationals, and documents every process step in compliance with revDSG.

Talent management, not just recruitment: Conducts talent reviews using a 9-box grid for 180 employees, defines succession candidates for 22 key positions and links development plans with the annual goal-setting process.

Data-driven reporting: Creates monthly funnel metrics (source of hire, offer acceptance rate, cost-per-hire) in Power BI and derives channel budgets for jobs.ch, jobchannel and university career fairs.

Key achievements

Time-to-hire reduced by 39%. Through structured interview guides, a two-stage process and fixed interview slots, time-to-hire fell from 62 to 38 days across 135 placements per year.

Recruiting costs cut by CHF 210'000. Building a talent pool of 2'400 active profiles and an employee referral bonus increased the direct-hire rate from 21% to 54% within 18 months.

First-year turnover halved. Realistic job previews, structured 90-day onboarding and probation-period reviews after 30/60/90 days reduced early turnover from 18% to 8%.
