jobs.ch alternatives: the honest ranking
Updated:
In short
The honest ranking of jobs.ch alternatives, as at 5 September 2026: Job-Room on arbeit.swiss first — around seventy-five thousand open vacancies, free, and a five-working-day head start on roles subject to the vacancy reporting duty. Then employers’ own career pages, where almost half the application links in our index end up. Then SwissJobs.app for a CV written against one specific advert, then your regional portal, then Indeed and LinkedIn. The concession comes first: in German-speaking Switzerland jobs.ch, with close to thirty-eight thousand vacancies, remains the largest single list.

The order follows one criterion: how many adverts does the alternative add that are not on jobs.ch, and what does it cost you in time or money? Not name recognition, not headline totals. A platform that aggregates the same vacancies adds less than a small one with inventory of its own.
One warning belongs above the list. The footer of jobs.ch names topjobs.ch, jobwinner.ch, jobs4sales.ch, financejobs.ch, ingjobs.ch, ictcareer.ch and alpha.ch, introduced as «our platforms», above a copyright line reading © 2026 JobCloud AG. jobup.ch and JobScout24 belong to the same company. Searching all three to widen your search means searching the same provider three times.
Share of open adverts in our index whose application link points to an address that is neither a job board nor a recognised applicant system — in practice the employer’s own career page. Computed 5 September 2026; language region derived from the work location stated in the advert.
- arbeit.swiss states around seventy-five thousand open vacancies on its home page — and, beside it, over one hundred and seventy thousand registered candidates: more than two per advertised vacancy.
- Next to its regional filters, jobs.ch states close to thirty-eight thousand vacancies for German-speaking Switzerland, over four thousand four hundred for the French-speaking part and 345 for Ticino.
- For 47.6 per cent of the adverts in our index the application link goes neither to a job board nor to a recognised applicant system, but to the employer’s own site; eight percentage points of that come from employers with at most two open adverts.
- The overlap with the JobCloud group is minimal: 0.1 per cent of our adverts.
- Language region flips the ranking: 53.0 per cent of French-speaking adverts apply directly to the employer, 46.8 per cent in German-speaking Switzerland, but only 26.9 per cent in Ticino — where 37.1 per cent go through another job board instead.
- A vacancy subject to the reporting duty may, according to arbeit.swiss, be advertised elsewhere only five working days after it is published in the protected area of Job-Room.
The ranking at a glance
| Alternative | Own inventory | Cost to jobseekers | Languages | Strength | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Job-Room (arbeit.swiss) | Yes, around 75 000 vacancies | Free | DE / FR / IT / EN | Five working days’ head start on reportable vacancies | The head start applies only once registered, which requires an RAV registration |
| 2. Employers’ career pages | Yes — the source itself | Free | Whatever the firm uses | 47.6 % of our application links go there | No search, no alerts, high time cost |
| 3. SwissJobs.app | Yes, 0.1 % overlap with JobCloud | Search free; tools CHF 15/month or 95/year after 7 days | DE / FR / IT / EN | CV written against an advert already in the index, no pasting | Much smaller than jobs.ch; no employer reviews |
| 4. Regional portal (e.g. ostjob.ch) | Yes, regional | Free, email alert without an account | DE | More vacancies in its own region than jobs.ch | One region only; barely exists outside German-speaking Switzerland |
| 5. Indeed Switzerland | No, an aggregator | Free | DE / FR / IT / EN | Widest net, location search, Italian interface | Sorted by relevance, not date, by default; duplicates |
| 6. LinkedIn | Partly | Free | Many | English-language and international roles, the route through people | Filters missing on 5 September 2026; unfiltered results full of speculative-application placeholders |

1. Job-Room (arbeit.swiss) — the largest pool, and the only legal head start
The public employment service’s portal stated around seventy-five thousand open vacancies on 5 September 2026 — more than jobs.ch across all its regions that day. Searching is free, in four languages. What earns it first place, though, is not volume but time: according to arbeit.swiss, a vacancy subject to the reporting duty may only be advertised elsewhere five working days after it appears in the protected area of Job-Room. The SECO monitoring report of 6 July 2026 counts more than two hundred thousand reported vacancies for 2025, against roughly one hundred and seventy-eight thousand the year before.
The limit is on the same page: over one hundred and seventy thousand registered candidates, more than two for every advertised vacancy. It is a head start in time, not a competitive advantage, and only people registered with an RAV can use it. Deadline-bound information and documents must, arbeit.swiss says, be submitted through the Job-Room eServices or a channel designated by the RAV or the unemployment fund; private services, ours included, are aids and never substitutes.
2. Employers’ career pages — the biggest alternative is not a website
For 47.6 per cent of the adverts in our index the application link goes neither to a board nor to a recognised applicant system, but to the company’s own career page. Eight percentage points of that come from employers with at most two open adverts — small firms for which a national listing is expensive and unnecessary. Those are precisely the vacancies most likely to be missing from any board, however large.
In practice: write down the twenty or thirty employers in your area and check their career pages yourself. High yield, high effort — no search, no sorting, no alerts. Which is why this is second and not first.
3. SwissJobs.app — different inventory, and a CV per advert
The reason to name us at all is the reason behind rank two: different inventory. For 0.1 per cent of our adverts the application route leads to jobs.ch, jobup.ch or jobscout24, so the two lists sit beside each other rather than on top of each other. On top of that comes something a job board alone cannot do: the CV is written against the wording of an advert that is already here, instead of you pasting the text in from somewhere. The mechanism is modest and should stay modest — a CV using the advert’s own vocabulary matches keyword-based filters better than a generic one. Nobody can promise more than that.
The prices, so you can check them: searching and reading are free and need no account, the generator can be tried anonymously, and the account is asked for to save and from the second document. With an account, five documents a day and ten per rolling week are free; then a seven-day trial, then CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year. The limit is just as plain: we are far smaller than jobs.ch, and we have no employer reviews.
4. Your regional portal — bigger than the market leader in its own region
On 5 September 2026 ostjob.ch showed over six thousand three hundred jobs; jobs.ch stated over five thousand four hundred for its own Eastern Switzerland / GR / FL region. The two do not count identically, but the direction is unambiguous: if you are tied to a place, the regional portal has more than the national leader, because regional employers advertise there first. The email alert arrives without an account.
The limit is the region itself: two cantons means two sites, and the network barely exists in French-speaking Switzerland or Ticino. Never a sole source, often the best supplement to ranks one and two.
5. Indeed Switzerland — the widest net, the weakest signal
Indeed collects adverts from company sites, applicant systems and other boards, which is strong when you search by place rather than by job title. In fairness, two points in its favour: the Swiss site is available in German, French, English and Italian — one language more than jobs.ch — and filters for workload, contract type and date are all there.
The cost is signal. The results list defaults to «relevance» rather than «date», so switch that before you judge the site. And an aggregator is a signpost, not a destination: in our index no measurable share of application links leads to Indeed itself.
6. LinkedIn — a network with a job list attached, not the other way round
For English-language and international roles, particularly in Zurich, Zug, Basel and Geneva, LinkedIn is strong, and nothing replaces it for anything that runs through people rather than a form. That English-language roles are a market of their own here is measurable: 20.8 per cent of the adverts in our index are written in English — and 23.4 per cent of those still require German. An English advert in Switzerland is not a waiver of the local language.
As a list it still belongs at the bottom. The Swiss results page stated over forty-six thousand job postings on 5 September 2026 and is readable without an account — but above the list stood the question «Where are the filters?», and the unfiltered top results were mostly speculative-application placeholders, several of them months to over a year old. A job alert needs an account. Strong as a network, weak as a list.
Where the ranking flips: French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino
The order above is a German-speaking order. In the French-speaking part rank two gains weight: 53.0 per cent of those adverts in our index apply directly to the employer, against 46.8 per cent in the German-speaking part. Searching in Geneva or Lausanne pays off above average on career pages — and it is worth knowing that jobup.ch belongs to the same company as jobs.ch.
In Ticino it flips outright. Only 26.9 per cent of Ticino adverts go straight to the employer, while 37.1 per cent run through another job board — boards matter more there, not less. jobs.ch stated 345 vacancies for Ticino and does not exist there in Italian: on 5 September 2026 jobs.ch/it landed on the German home page. So for Ticino, move Job-Room and Indeed up; both have an Italian interface. That language is the real filter shows in the same index: 55.9 per cent of Ticino adverts are written in Italian and 50.8 per cent explicitly require it.
Who should stay with jobs.ch
If you search in German-speaking Switzerland and simply want the longest single list, stay: close to thirty-eight thousand vacancies for that region is more than any alternative here offers for it. Then there are features we do not have at all — public employer reviews, a salary calculator built from registered members’ own figures, the «Spotted» talent pool and the Job Coach. For jobseekers, none of it costs anything.
So the honest summary is not an either-or. Add Job-Room if you are registered with an RAV or work in a reportable occupation. Add career pages if you have time. Add us if you want a tailored dossier per application. Add your regional portal if you are tied to a place, and Indeed if you search by location — sorted by date.
What people report
Swiss jobseekers and advisers writing on LinkedIn rarely describe Job-Room as a search engine; they describe it as the official submission channel — adverts are found elsewhere and typed into the form at the end of the month. First place here rests on the head start and the obligation, not on the interface.
Aggregated from the Swiss LinkedIn posts in our collection that mention Job-Room or the record of job-search efforts; no individual is quoted.
All platform figures were read on 5 September 2026 on each platform’s own page; they are counted differently and are not directly comparable. The shares come from the adverts open on SwissJobs.app that day; we do not publish absolute index sizes. «Neither a board nor an applicant system» rests on recognising known providers — an unknown system therefore counts as a company site, so the figure is an upper bound. The language region is derived from the work location stated in the advert and is not official cantonal statistics.
