Interview practice (live AI)

AI interview practice or a human interview coach?

Updated:

In short

For the practice itself, AI interview training is the better choice; for a judgement on how you come across, a human coach is. AI asks you questions about a specific job advert as often as you like, including at eleven the night before, and scores every answer; on SwissJobs.app that costs CHF 15 a month. A coach sees posture, eye contact and nerves, knows Swiss HR departments from the inside, and charges CHF 75 to 230 for a session. Most candidates do best combining them: rehearse with AI, book the coach for the round that matters.

Practise the interview out loud, and see how you scored

An AI panel asks the questions and you answer by voice, the way the real call goes. Afterwards you get a pass probability and the moments that cost you.

The question tends to be asked as either-or, and it rarely is. The two solve different problems. One is repetition: an answer to "Why do you want to work here?" only gets good on the third or fourth attempt, and no person listens to four attempts for the price of one. The other is perception: whether you look down when salary comes up, or speed up when you are nervous, is something a person in the room notices and a scored transcript does not.

The prices on this page come from the providers' own websites, read on 16 September 2026; the cantonal fees were read on 24 August 2026. The details of our own practice tool come from its code on the same day.

  • Coaches in Switzerland: CV Pics charges CHF 230 for about 35 minutes of mock interview plus about 35 minutes of feedback, by video call or in Thalwil near Zurich. coaching-job.ch bills CHF 75 (standard) or CHF 90 (expert) per 30 minutes. Laufbahnvision in Zurich gives a guide price of CHF 180 an hour, excluding VAT.
  • AI on SwissJobs.app: one scored answer without an account, five on the day you open a free account and five a month after that; paid, CHF 15 a month for 40 scored answers or CHF 95 a year with 80 a month.
  • What only a coach can do: judge body language, dress, handshake and voice, tell you from their own hiring experience how a particular industry interviews, and watch you under real pressure.
  • What only AI can do: unlimited repetition with no appointment, questions drawn straight from the advert text, and a number per answer so you can see whether you are improving.
  • Cheaper than both, if you live here: cantonal career guidance ranges from free (Geneva, for people who pay tax there) to CHF 170 an hour (Zurich, after the first session).

Why practise with SwissJobs.app before you pay a coach

A coach is worth most once you have stopped stumbling over the first rough version of your answers. Getting you there is exactly the work AI does cheaply and well.

  • The advert is already there — We carry more than twenty thousand open Swiss job adverts; open practice from a listing and the questions are built on that text, with no copying and pasting.

  • Repeat without a meter running — With a coach the clock runs from the first minute; with AI you answer the same question five times until it lands.

  • A score for every answer — Each answer gets 0 to 10, split into substance, structure and fit to the role, so you can see whether attempt three beat attempt one.

  • The room as it looks in Switzerland — You pick the company size and up to five people in the interview, such as HR, the line manager and a future colleague; a big bank asks differently from a small workshop.

  • One subscription for the whole application — CV, cover letter for the same advert, CV check and interview practice together cost CHF 15 a month, less than a tenth of one CV Pics session.

What a coach charges in Switzerland, read on 16 September 2026

CV Pics sells an interview training for CHF 230. According to the page, it includes about 35 minutes of mock interview, about 35 minutes of feedback and coaching, and a review of your CV and the target role so the questions fit. It runs by video call or at the office in Thalwil, and you pay up front by Twint or bank transfer. The coach is introduced as having more than fifteen years as an HR manager.

coaching-job.ch prices in half hours: CHF 75 for the standard training and CHF 90 for the expert version, billed per quarter hour. The provider says a session lasts anywhere from half an hour to four hours depending on how prepared you are; using all four hours at the expert rate would come to CHF 720. The session has the coach play the hiring manager, records you on video and gives feedback from that recording.

Laufbahnvision in Zurich gives a guide price of CHF 180 an hour for coaching, excluding VAT, and only sends a binding quote after a free 30-minute intro call. That is common in this market: many providers publish guide prices rather than final ones.

What AI actually checks, and what it does not

Our tool takes your CV and a job advert, asks for the company size and who will be in the room, and then asks questions you answer out loud. Every answer is scored from 0 to 10, split into substance, structure and fit to the role, with a short reason and a note on what a strong answer would have included. At the end you get an overall estimate as a percentage.

It scores what you say. It does not score how you look while saying it: whether you hold eye contact, whether your hands are still, whether your clothes suit the company. The number also does not predict whether you get hired. It measures an answer against a rubric and knows nothing about the other candidates or the chemistry in the room.

For many Swiss interviews, content is still the bigger lever. Hiring managers here tend to expect evidenced examples rather than self-promotion, and a vague answer to "Tell me about a conflict in your team" stands out more than a handshake that is slightly too firm. If you are moving from the US or the UK, that difference in register is worth rehearsing on its own.

When paying a coach is worth it

A coach is the right call when content is not your problem. If you freeze, blush or lose your voice in interviews, you need someone who can watch that and work on it with you; no text score will pick it up. The same goes for an assessment centre with group exercises, or a presentation to a panel.

It is also worth it when the stakes are high: a senior role, a return after a long break, or a move into an industry whose conventions you do not know. A coach who spent years hiring in a Swiss HR department can tell you which answer lands there, and that experience cannot be derived from an advert.

And it is worth it when you need someone to tell you, honestly, that your outfit, your habit of switching into English mid-answer or your long wind-ups are hurting you. That feedback is uncomfortable, which is exactly why people pay for it.

If you live here: the cantonal option

Before booking a private coach, check the career guidance service of your canton of residence. On 24 August 2026 it was free in Geneva for people liable to tax there, CHF 80 an hour in Ticino, CHF 120 per 60-minute session in Bern, and in Zurich CHF 80 for the first session and CHF 170 an hour after that.

These services are tied to where you live and often have waiting lists, so an appointment for the day after tomorrow is unlikely. If you are still abroad, they are generally not an option, and a video session with a private coach or AI practice is what remains. If you are registered with the RAV, ask your adviser first whether a course can be assigned. Our page on alternatives to an interview coach has the details.

The combination that costs least

For most applications this order works. First, answer the typical questions for the advert with AI until your substance and fit scores stop moving. Then, if the role is worth it, book a single coach session and use it for what only a person can see: presence, voice, the awkward salary question.

That way you are not paying a coach to listen to your first rough attempts. One CV Pics session costs about the same as fifteen months of our subscription; two hours at the coaching-job.ch expert rate come to CHF 360. The coach's time is worth more when you walk in prepared.

If you want to start for free, ChatGPT's voice mode will also ask you questions and is good for loosening up. It does not score you against a Swiss advert, though, and whether your answer improved is left to you to judge.

Who should choose which

AI practice: when you are preparing for a specific advert, have several interviews close together, practise in the evenings or on a tight budget, or are applying from abroad. A coach: when nerves or presence are the problem, when a senior role or an assessment centre is coming, or when you want feedback grounded in Swiss hiring experience. Both: when a lot is riding on it, AI first for the repetitions, then one coach session for the polish.

Coach prices read on the pages of CV Pics, coaching-job.ch and Laufbahnvision on 16 September 2026, without requesting a quote; individual sessions may differ. Cantonal fees read on the cantons' fee pages on 24 August 2026. Our figures from the practice tool's code on 16 September 2026.
