Job-Room alternatives: what works alongside the RAV portal
Updated:
In short
Job-Room cannot be replaced, only complemented — and for most occupations the complement is the whole point. Only vacancies under the Swiss job registration requirement are exclusive to it: in our set of open Swiss adverts, 4.2 per cent carry a job title belonging to an occupation on the list in force for 2026. Whether the five-working-day head start reaches you therefore depends on your occupational field, not on the market as a whole: 68.4 per cent of cleaning and caretaking adverts, against 7.4 per cent in office and customer-service roles.
This page explains how to organise a Swiss job search alongside Job-Room. Signing on, suitability of work and the monthly proof of job-search efforts follow what your RAV requires — settle anything unusual with them, not with a tool.

By work type
The ranking below is not sorted by size but by what a source ADDS next to Job-Room. On that measure we place ourselves sixth of six: we do not carry a bigger selection than jobs.ch, and claiming otherwise would be disproved in a minute. What we add comes after the search, not during it.
One fact belongs at the top because it explains why this question exists at all. Job-Room's robots.txt opens with the line «Do not crawl Job Adverts» and blocks the job-search path (read 5 September 2026). No search engine and no assistant can search that portal on your behalf. You have to open it yourself — and if you have never heard of it, its listings will never reach you.
Open Swiss adverts in our set on 5 September 2026, apprenticeships and internships excluded, assigned to the 2026 list by job title; advert language detected from the text. Bases: Italian 481, French roughly two thousand seven hundred, German about eleven thousand, English about five and a half thousand adverts.
- Threshold for the registration requirement: 5 per cent unemployment in the occupation type, computed over the last quarter of 2024 and the first three quarters of 2025, in force from 1 January to 31 December 2026.
- Share in our set: 4.2 per cent of open adverts carry a title assignable to an occupation on that list. Between 1.0 and 5.6 per cent depending on how strictly the title is read — in no variant more than one advert in seventeen.
- By field the spread is wide: cleaning and caretaking 68.4 per cent, hospitality 50.4, sales and marketing 16.0, construction and trades 10.0, office and customer service 7.4.
- By the language the advert is written in, English is the corner where the head start matters least: Italian-language adverts 7.3 per cent, French 5.6, German 4.5, English 3.1.
- Even inside that slice the application mostly ends at the employer: 64.5 per cent of those adverts lead to a page belonging to the company itself rather than to a portal.
- jobs.ch, jobup.ch and JobScout24 belong to JobCloud AG — the footers read «© 2026 JobCloud AG» and «© 2026 JobCloud SA» (read 4 and 5 September 2026). Searching all three to widen your search means searching the same provider three times.
- Job-Room's robots.txt blocks the job-search path outright. An advert there cannot be found through a search engine or an assistant.
What SwissJobs.app adds alongside Job-Room
Not more adverts — Job-Room is larger than we are. The difference is that here the search and the documents are one product.
The vacancy is already in — We run the job index ourselves, so the advert text is present: you select the posting instead of copying it in from somewhere else.
Four tools on the same advert — CV, motivation letter, a check against that exact posting and interview preparation — from the same details.
The SECO sheet from the tracker — Your job-search efforts are filled into the official form from the applications you logged, ready to print; submission still follows what your RAV requires.
Word export without a watermark — PDF and DOCX, both unmarked — on a free plan that is exactly what many providers withhold.
Start without an account — The tools open without signing in; the account is asked for to save and from the second document.
54 design variations — 2 layouts x 3 typefaces x 9 accent colours, freely combined — not a fixed list of templates to pick one from.

As at 5 September 2026. Portal details from their own pages, ours from the code and from walking the flow. «not stated» means it could not be read on the provider's site — not that it does not exist.
How big the exclusive part actually is
Job-Room has exactly one property no alternative can copy: according to arbeit.swiss, a vacancy in an occupation under the registration requirement may be advertised elsewhere only five working days after it is published in the portal's protected area. The criterion is a single number — an unemployment rate of at least 5 per cent for that occupation type, computed over the last quarter of 2024 and the first three quarters of 2025 and applied for the 2026 calendar year. What has been missing from this question is the order of magnitude: assigning the open adverts in our set to that list by job title gives 4.2 per cent — 1.0 read strictly, 5.6 including the opening of the job description, 5.3 averaged over employers rather than adverts. In no variant does the head start touch more than one advert in seventeen.
The average is nonetheless the wrong number here, and that is the real finding. By occupational field, 68.4 per cent of cleaning and caretaking adverts sit in an occupation under the requirement and 50.4 per cent of hospitality adverts, against 7.4 per cent in office and customer service. The small fields rest on small bases (cleaning 79, hospitality 371 adverts); the ordering survives that. For anyone applying in English the figure is lower again — 3.1 per cent of English-language adverts, the lowest of the four advert languages. Job-Room's interface exists in German, French, Italian and English; its listings are overwhelmingly German, which is the practical catch for anyone job-hunting in Switzerland in English.
1. jobs.ch — the largest private selection, with one caveat
Verdict: the obvious second source in German-speaking Switzerland, as long as you know who owns it. jobs.ch calls itself Switzerland's leading job platform on its own home page, and on volume that is not contestable — we do not come close to it either. The interface runs in German, French and English (read 5 September 2026).
The caveat is in the footer: «© 2026 JobCloud AG». The same company owns jobup.ch («© 2026 JobCloud SA») and JobScout24, which stated just over eighty-six thousand jobs online on its own home page on 4 September 2026. That does not mean the three brands carry identical adverts — we have not compared their listings and do not claim it. It means that searching all three to widen your search is searching the same provider three times. Right for: German-speaking Switzerland across every industry, when one additional source has to be enough.
2. jobup.ch — the region Job-Room covers most thinly
Verdict: the strongest addition for French-speaking Switzerland, even though it belongs to the same house as number one. Job-Room is a federal portal with a four-language interface, but its listings are heavily German-language. jobup.ch runs its interface in French and English and describes itself as the site for every vacancy in Suisse romande (read 4 September 2026).
Worth noting: in our set the share of registration-requirement occupations is higher among French-language adverts, at 5.6 per cent, than among German-language ones at 4.5. In the Romandie both are worth it — the local portal and signing on. Right for: Geneva, Vaud, Neuchâtel, Fribourg, Valais and Jura, particularly hospitality, construction and watchmaking.
3. Employer career pages — where the application ends anyway
Verdict: the most underrated source, and the only one with no intermediary. Of the adverts in our set that fall under the registration requirement, 64.5 per cent lead to a page belonging to the employer itself (base 884 adverts). The detour through a portal is, in the majority of cases, exactly that: a detour to a page you could have gone to directly.
In practice: write down twenty to thirty employers in your region and your field, and look at their vacancies page every week or two. It is tedious, which is why almost nobody does it — and that is precisely why it works. Right for: everyone, and especially regions full of small employers with neither a job-board subscription nor an HR department.
4. LinkedIn Jobs — English-language roles and the channel with no advert
Verdict: the strongest addition for international and English-language roles, and the only source here where a job can appear without an advert at all. A public agency cannot be a network; Job-Room carries listings and forms and does not aim to be more. That is where the difference sits, not in the number of hits.
The honest part: without an account LinkedIn is barely usable as a Swiss job search. Opening its jobs page without a session on 4 September 2026 produced a consent wall and a page whose title referred to the United States. Right for: IT, pharma, finance, NGOs and roles advertised in English. Weak for trades, care work and hospitality.
5. Indeed Switzerland — the widest aggregation, and its price
Verdict: the broadest reach across other people's sources, with a mechanism worth knowing. Its own terms of service (version dated 29 June 2026, retrieved 4 September 2026) state that job adverts are indexed and posted in an automated manner. That explains the breadth — and the duplicates, since the same advert can arrive from several sources.
The same text carries the rarely quoted part: an employer posting an advert that is already indexed on the site from another source — their own careers page, for instance — may have to buy the directly posted one as a sponsored listing. Visibility there is partly purchasable, so the order of the results is not a ranking by fit. Right for: a broad first sweep of the market.
6. SwissJobs.app — what we add, and what we do not
Verdict: not a bigger selection, but what happens after you find something. Our set is smaller than jobs.ch and smaller than Job-Room's public listings. That is why we come last in this ranking: if all you want is more adverts, one to five serve you better.
What differs is that the two halves are one product. Because we run the job index ourselves the advert text is already there: you pick the vacancy, and the CV, the motivation letter, the check against that same advert and the interview preparation are written against it — no copying and pasting. The application tracker fills the official SECO sheet for your job-search efforts, ready to print; the proof itself still goes in whatever form your RAV requires. The tools open without an account and ask for one to save and from the second document; a free account allows 5 documents a day and 10 per rolling week, then seven days of full access to try, then CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year, cancellable monthly. Right for: anyone who wants a tailored dossier per advert instead of one standard document.
Who should stay with Job-Room
If you are signed on with an RAV, Job-Room is not one candidate among several but the starting point: without registering there, the five-working-day head start passes you by, and it is the one thing on this page that genuinely cannot be replaced. Signing on for placement, the claim for unemployment benefit and the monthly proof of job-search efforts all run through the same route; the form that proof must take is set by your RAV, not by a tool.
If your occupation is on the 2026 list — cooks, restaurant service staff, plasterers, painters, welders, insulation fitters, forklift drivers, hotel receptionists, cleaners, call-centre staff, graphic designers, watch industry workers, technical sales specialists, sales and marketing directors — then sequence matters more than selection: Job-Room first, everything else after. For every other occupation it is one good, free, large source among several, and the rest of this page says which ones earn their place beside it.
The shares come from our own set of open Swiss adverts on 5 September 2026; apprenticeships, internships and trainee posts are excluded and we do not publish absolute counts. Assignment to the occupations under the registration requirement is made from the job title rather than from the official five-digit occupational code — a deliberately narrow approximation and therefore a floor rather than a ceiling; whether a specific vacancy is covered is decided by the responsible RAV. The range from 1.0 to 5.6 per cent shows how sensitive the figure is to that strictness. Legal detail and the 2026 list come from arbeit.swiss, whose English page links the German version of the list; portal details come from the providers' own pages, retrieved on 4 and 5 September 2026.
