What are the best alternatives to Indeed in Switzerland?

Updated:

In short

Six alternatives are worth using in Switzerland. SwissJobs.app if you want Swiss adverts with the application tools attached. jobs.ch for the largest Swiss listing. LinkedIn to reach the person doing the hiring. Job-Room, the federal platform, for anything tied to an RAV deadline and for jobs employers must register before advertising them publicly. JobScout24 as a second search surface. And the employer’s own careers page, because 44.0 per cent of the adverts in our index send you there to apply anyway. Checked 5 September 2026.

If you are searching from outside Switzerland, one thing on this list behaves differently from the rest, and it is worth knowing before you start: Job-Room’s central advantage only works once you are registered with a Swiss regional employment office. Everything else on this list is open to anyone.

The ranking below gives each option what it is, what it costs, who it fits and where it is weak — after a section on where Indeed genuinely beats all of them, because that part is true and skipping it would make the rest less useful.

  • Indeed Switzerland runs its interface in four languages — German, French, Italian and English. Among the large Swiss job boards only Job-Room does the same; jobs.ch and JobScout24 stop at English.
  • Indeed shows salary bands and employer star ratings inside the result list. On 5 September 2026 a Swiss Post advert carried an annual salary range and one employer showed 3.7 out of 5 stars. Nothing else in this ranking puts both in the same view.
  • 44.0 per cent of the adverts in our index send you to apply on a domain that is neither a job board, nor a staffing agency, nor a hosted applicant system — in practice, the employer’s own site.
  • 40.3 per cent go to a hosted applicant system, 9.5 per cent to a staffing agency, and only 6.2 per cent to another job board. A job board is rarely where an advert originates.
  • The ten most common apply destinations cover 32.0 per cent of the index. Behind them sit more than two thousand further domains, and 43.6 per cent of those carry exactly one advert.
  • 20.2 per cent of the adverts in our index are written in English — 18.3 per cent in German-speaking Switzerland, 27.3 per cent in the French-speaking cantons and 23.6 per cent in Ticino.
  • jobs.ch and JobScout24 both carry © JobCloud AG in the footer, jobup.ch © JobCloud SA. Searching all three to widen your search means searching the same provider three times.
  • The job registration requirement has applied since 1 July 2018 to occupations with high unemployment: employers must register those vacancies with the regional employment office before advertising them publicly.
  • JobScout24’s own home page stated just over eighty-six thousand adverts online on 4 September 2026.
  • Two thirds of the adverts in our index state at least one language requirement, and a fifth state two or more — the detail a generic international board does not carry.

Where Indeed genuinely wins

One search covers the whole country and costs nothing. No Swiss board in this ranking shows as many adverts for Switzerland in absolute terms. If what you want is the longest possible result list to filter yourself, Indeed is the right tool and stays the right tool.

Two things sit in Indeed’s result list that nothing else here shows in the same place: salary bands and employer ratings. We opened the Swiss search on 5 September 2026 — a Swiss Post role carried an annual salary range directly in the list, and one employer showed 3.7 out of 5 stars. For a first read on what a role pays and what working there is like, that is faster than researching it separately.

Indeed also works from abroad exactly as it works from Zurich: four interface languages, no Swiss address, no AHV number, no account needed to search or to set up an email alert. For someone planning a move who has not arrived yet, that matters more than any feature comparison.

What you pay for it is age. Set Indeed’s own date filter to the last seven days and roughly one advert in ten survives — measured on 4 September 2026 for our direct head-to-head with Indeed. And the interface language does not filter the language of the adverts: on 5 September 2026 the German-language Swiss search returned French-language postings among the first results.

1. SwissJobs.app — Swiss adverts with the application attached

What it is: a Swiss job board with the application tools built onto it. You pick the advert, and the CV is written against that specific text — plus a motivation letter for the same advert, a check of the CV against it, and interview preparation. Applications you track become lines in the official SECO job-search-efforts form, in German, French or Italian.

What it costs: searching is free and the tools open without an account — you are asked to save and from the second document, not before. A free account covers 5 documents per day and 10 per rolling week. After that, seven days of full access free, then CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year, cancellable any time. PDF and Word export, neither watermarked.

Who it fits: anyone applying to Swiss adverts who wants a dossier matched to each posting rather than one generic CV. Swiss conventions are built in — the photo convention, the permit line, CEFR language levels, the workload as a Pensum in per cent, and the two-page norm. A generic international builder produces a US résumé and gets all of that wrong.

The weakness, stated plainly: we are smaller. Indeed shows a multiple of our result count for Switzerland, and a better freshness share does not change that — the proportion flips, the volume does not. In a narrow niche with few adverts anywhere, check both.

2. jobs.ch — the largest Swiss job board

What it is: the best-known Swiss portal, © JobCloud AG in the footer. Alongside the search it runs a salary calculator, company profiles with employee ratings, a careers advice section, and Spotted, a talent pool where companies approach you from your profile. Free for job seekers, and the interface exists in English.

Who it fits: anyone searching broadly in German-speaking Switzerland or the Romandie who wants Swiss employers rather than a filtered international list. If you open only one Swiss board next to Indeed, open this one. It is also the practical answer for an English-speaking reader who wants Swiss coverage with an interface they can read.

The weaknesses: the interface runs in German, French and English — no Italian, which makes it a second choice for Ticino. And jobs.ch, jobup.ch and JobScout24 belong to the same provider, so opening all three to widen the net means searching the same provider three times.

3. LinkedIn — the contact, not the volume

What it is: a professional network with a job search attached. Its value is not the result list but the fact that the person filling the role has a profile there and can be approached. In Zurich and Geneva, and in finance, IT, pharma and consulting, that is where a large share of hiring conversations actually start. Searching and applying are free; Premium costs extra.

Who it fits: anyone relocating to Switzerland, and anyone in an internationally staffed sector where English is the working language. This is also where Swiss recruiters look for candidates rather than waiting for applications, which is the one channel where being findable beats searching.

The weakness: LinkedIn is not a Swiss index. Its location filter is coarse, cross-border and worldwide remote postings mix in, and one-click applying invites exactly the scattergun approach that lands nothing. Treat it as a contact channel with a job list attached, not as a replacement for a Swiss board.

4. Job-Room (arbeit.swiss) — the official channel, and for deadlines the only one

What it is: the job platform of the Swiss unemployment insurance, run by the federal economics secretariat. Four interface languages, free. Its distinguishing feature is legal rather than technical: the job registration requirement has applied since 1 July 2018 to occupations with high unemployment, and employers must register such vacancies with the responsible regional employment office before advertising them publicly. Job seekers registered with that office get an information and application head start. Which occupations are covered is set out in a list published annually.

In plain terms: for those occupations there are adverts on Job-Room that are not yet allowed to appear on Indeed. No private portal can reproduce that.

The other half is obligation, and the order matters. Job-Room states on its own home page that private online services may support job search and applications, but that information and documents subject to a deadline must be submitted through Job-Room’s eServices or through a channel designated by the regional employment office or the unemployment fund. What we and any other tool add is a convenience layer on top — never a substitute. Getting that wrong can cost someone their benefit.

Who it fits: anyone registered with a Swiss regional employment office, or about to be. This is the one entry in the ranking whose main advantage presupposes that you already live in Switzerland and are inside the system — if you are searching from abroad, it is a place to read adverts, not yet a place that works for you. The other weakness is ordinary: it is a government interface, functional rather than comfortable, with no salary data and no employer ratings.

5. JobScout24 — the same provider, a different surface

What it is: a Swiss job board with its own search and its own layout — regions instead of cantons, occupational groups as the entry point, apprenticeships as a section of their own. The footer names JobCloud AG at a Zurich address. Its home page stated just over eighty-six thousand adverts online on 4 September 2026. Free to use and to register.

Who it fits: people who think in regions rather than cantons — one click bundles north-western or eastern Switzerland, which on a cantonal list would take several ticks — and anyone looking for an apprenticeship, which has its own section here rather than being mixed into the general search.

The weakness: the same owner as jobs.ch. As an extra search surface next to Indeed it is useful; as an independent second opinion it is not. German, French and English only.

6. The employer’s careers page — statistically the most common destination

What it is: not a portal, but the place the application ends up anyway. 44.0 per cent of the adverts in our index link to a domain that is neither a job board nor a staffing agency nor a hosted applicant system — in practice, the employer’s own site. Another 40.3 per cent go to a hosted applicant system the employer runs. Only 6.2 per cent point at another job board. A board is rarely where an advert originates; it is the route to it.

And that route is long. The ten most common destinations cover 32.0 per cent of the index; behind them sit more than two thousand further domains, and 43.6 per cent of those carry exactly one advert. There is no handful of sites you could work through instead.

Who it fits: if you know the ten or twenty employers you want to work for, their careers pages are the fastest and most complete source — the role appears there first, in the employer’s own wording, without the truncation a portal sometimes applies. Nearly all of them offer their own email alert.

The weakness is obvious: you cannot search across employers, and twenty separate alerts mean twenty inboxes to manage. This complements a job board; it does not replace one.

Two that get recommended and are not in the ranking

XING is well known among German speakers and is very much alive — its home page advertised more than a million jobs across its markets on 5 September 2026. But its orientation is German, not Swiss: the site talks about Gehalt rather than the Swiss Lohn, and its suggestion lists are cut for the German labour market. Useful for applying across the border into Germany; not a first stop for a role in Zurich or Bern.

Regional boards such as ostjob.ch, which calls itself the leading job portal for eastern Switzerland and showed around six thousand four hundred roles on 5 September 2026 with a free email alert, are genuinely good when the region is fixed. They cover one corner of the country, so if you are not committed to a region they add nothing.

Who should stay with Indeed

If you want the longest result list and are willing to filter for freshness yourself, stay — the date filter that does it is built in and takes one click.

If you are searching from abroad without a Swiss address, Indeed is the easiest entry point: four interface languages, no account, no proof of residence. Of the six entries above, only Job-Room’s main advantage depends on already being registered in the Swiss system.

And if salary bands and employer ratings inside the result list matter to you, nothing in this ranking replaces that one-for-one. jobs.ch has a salary calculator and company ratings, but not in the same view as the listings.

The reverse holds just as firmly. If you apply carefully to a small number of roles, if you are registered with a regional employment office, or if you work in an occupation covered by the registration requirement, this list will do more for you than a longer result list will.

How this ranking was put together

The portal facts come from the portals themselves, opened on 4 and 5 September 2026: interface languages, their own statements about how many adverts they hold, and their footers. The job registration requirement comes from the official arbeit.swiss page, and the note about deadline-bound submissions from Job-Room’s own home page, both read on 5 September 2026.

The percentages about the Swiss market are computed from our own index as it stood open on 5 September 2026 and published as shares, never as absolute counts. Apply destinations are classified from the address an advert links to: the known providers of hosted applicant systems count as one category, the large staffing firms as another, and the remainder is treated as the employer’s own site. Some blur remains — a company domain that fits no category lands in the last one.

What we did not measure: whether the same vacancy appears on several of these portals. That one advert often appears in more than one place is separately true; about how the three JobCloud portals relate to one another we say nothing, because we have not compared them.

What people report

  • Seen from the hiring side, the most common problem is not a weak application but an unfitting one: a standard letter that would work equally well for a trust office or a care home, sent for a role that asks for a specific qualification. Any interface that reduces applying to one click encourages exactly that — the count rises, the hit rate does not.
