What is an alternative to bewerbung.ch for cover letters?

Updated:

In short

For an English speaker in Switzerland, bewerbung.ch has one decisive limitation before price enters the picture: the interface is German only, and its French address returned an error on 28 August 2026. The serious alternatives are SwissJobs.app, cvswiss.ch, ChatGPT, Kickresume, Zety and Europass. For letters answering Swiss adverts we recommend SwissJobs.app — the letter is written next to your CV, takes the advert text from it, and you pick its language per letter; five letters a day are free, then CHF 15 a month. bewerbung.ch still wins on two counts: you can try it without an account, and nothing renews automatically.

The number worth knowing before the list. At bewerbung.ch the letter itself is not the paywall — the AI in front of it is. A new account comes with three BeKI credits, and every AI action spends exactly one, whether that is a draft cover letter, a round of interview training or a short profile. After three, ten more credits cost CHF 5 and twenty-five cost CHF 10; one month of Premium is CHF 20 and includes ten credits, three months CHF 50 with thirty. Applying over several weeks with a fresh draft for each advert is therefore priced per letter, not per month.

Every figure here comes from the provider's own pages, opened on 28 August 2026: the home, pricing, BeKI and FAQ pages of bewerbung.ch, plus cvswiss.ch, the Swiss ChatGPT pricing page, Kickresume's and Zety's pricing pages, the European Commission's Europass cover-letter tool and the application tips on arbeit.swiss. Amounts billed in euros or dollars are converted to francs at the European Central Bank reference rate of the same day and rounded. The shares come from the open adverts on SwissJobs.app, same date. As of 28 August 2026.

Share of the open adverts on SwissJobs.app whose language can be determined and whose location resolves to a canton, 28 August 2026. Bern, Fribourg and Valais are counted separately as bilingual cantons and are not included here.

  • Which of these speak Switzerland's languages: bewerbung.ch runs in German only, Kickresume has no French version at all, and Zety and Europass are written for a market rather than a country. Only SwissJobs.app and cvswiss.ch produce documents in all four national languages and shape them like a Swiss dossier.
  • Free without paying anything: Europass (EU Login account, no paid tier at all), ChatGPT's free tier, Kickresume's free tier with four matching cover-letter templates and unlimited downloads, and five letters a day on SwissJobs.app. Zety's free tier includes the builder but downloads only as a plain text file.
  • Prices as read on 28 August 2026: SwissJobs.app CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year; cvswiss.ch CHF 15 a month; bewerbung.ch CHF 20 for one month or CHF 50 for three, plus credits at CHF 5 or CHF 10; Kickresume EUR 24 monthly or EUR 96 yearly, about CHF 22 and CHF 90; Zety USD 1.95 for fourteen days then USD 25.95 every four weeks, about CHF 1.55 and CHF 21.
  • English is not the exception you might expect it to be. Of the adverts on SwissJobs.app whose language we can determine, 33.7 per cent in the German-speaking cantons are written in English, 41.1 per cent in French-speaking Switzerland and 19.8 per cent in Ticino. An English letter is a normal answer to a Swiss advert — a letter that ignores Swiss conventions is not.
  • What the international tools leave out of a Swiss dossier is always the same three things: the workload as a percentage (a Pensum, not "full-time"), the Arbeitszeugnisse — the written employer references that belong in the file — and the permit line that every non-Swiss applicant is expected to state. arbeit.swiss lists the letter's formal elements and calls it your personal business card.
  • If you are registered with an RAV, the regional employment office, personal advice on your applications is part of what you already get. arbeit.swiss points to it explicitly on the same page — worth using before paying for anything on this list.

Who to choose

The difference is not the tool, it is what the tool starts from: with us the advert is already there. You pick the job straight from our own Swiss job index — with bewerbung.ch you find the advert somewhere else and paste it in.

Choose SwissJobs.app if

  • Pick the job directly — We run the job index ourselves. The advert text is already loaded, and everything else is written against exactly that text — no searching, no copying, no pasting.

  • Four tools, not one — CV, motivation letter for the same advert, a CV check against that advert, and interview preparation — one account, the same data.

  • The RAV sheet — Your job-search efforts are filled from your application tracker and printed as the official SECO form. No other tool in this comparison has it.

  • Word export, no watermark — PDF and DOCX, both clean. Many tools hand you a text file on the free plan, or stamp a watermark on the document.

  • Start without an account — The tools open without signing up. The account is asked for to save and from the second document — the first download needs none.

bewerbung.ch

A Swiss application builder where the CV and the cover letter live in one account, with its own letter layouts, an assistant called BeKI, an interview trainer that accepts voice input in Swiss German, and data held on Swiss servers. It also runs two editions no international tool offers: a school edition for careers lessons and a coaching edition for advisers.

What the letter costs, read on 28 August 2026: the standard account is free, carries one layout marked with the provider's logo — the free letter layout is called "1" — and comes with three BeKI credits, one spent per AI suggestion. Ten more credits cost CHF 5, twenty-five cost CHF 10. Premium is CHF 20 for a month with ten credits, CHF 50 for three with thirty, and the FAQ states twice that nothing renews by itself.

Best for: apprenticeship applications, careers classes, and anyone who wants a Swiss tool without a running subscription — you can even start as a guest, without registering. The limits for an English speaker are the interface language and the export: there is no Word download at all, stated plainly in the FAQ, and documents in English, French and Italian are a Premium feature.

SwissJobs.app

We are a job board and an application tool in the same account, and that is where the letter gets its material. You choose the CV the letter has to match, and the advert text carries over from that document instead of being hunted down and pasted again. Start from a job on our site and the title and company are already filled in, along with the advert text where we hold it. The language is chosen per letter — German, French, Italian or English — independently of the language you read the site in.

Price: an account is required. With it, five letters a day and ten a rolling month are free; beyond that the seven-day free trial runs, then CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year, priced in francs with no conversion. Five worked example letters — standard, apprenticeship, speculative, internship, and one in German for English speakers — are available in all four languages without an account and download as Word files.

Where bewerbung.ch is better: you can try it without registering, it has far more layouts, and it sells credit rather than a subscription. In fairness, its home page also lists an integrated job search with suggestions, though it does not say how many vacancies sit behind it. And for adverts where we hold only the title and the employer, you paste the text yourself — as you would anywhere else.

cvswiss.ch

The Swiss provider closest to us on letters. Its features page lists motivation letters as a tool of their own, generated "based on job postings and your CV", alongside an ATS check, a decoder for Arbeitszeugnisse and an export into the form the RAV and ORP require for job-search efforts. The interface is English-first, which for this audience is an advantage rather than a limitation.

Price on 28 August 2026: CHF 5 once for a single document, though that offer names only the CV and carries the note "No edits after download". Unlimited motivation letters sit in the CHF 15 monthly plan, which renews monthly, is cancellable in one click and carries a seven-day money-back guarantee.

Best for: someone who wants a Swiss-shaped document in English and searches for jobs elsewhere. The limits: you paste the advert yourself, since cvswiss holds no vacancies of its own, and the provider states that its AI features are rate-limited.

ChatGPT

For the prose itself nothing here beats a chat: you can rewrite a paragraph ten times, change the register, and throw away an opening without starting again. OpenAI's Swiss pricing page describes the free tier as unlimited text chats; the paid tiers are Go, Plus and Pro, and the page renders their amounts only inside the product.

What it does not have is your material. It knows neither the advert nor your CV until you paste both, and it tends towards American conventions — a resume rather than a CV, no permit line, no reference to the Arbeitszeugnisse, and a length that drifts past the one page Swiss employers expect.

Best for: the raw text, and for the sentences you cannot get right. Not the tool if you need a finished document at the end: page breaks, the sender block and the PDF all happen somewhere else.

Kickresume

An EU-based builder whose cover-letter side is unusually complete: forty letter templates that match the CV templates, a separate AI cover-letter writer, and a free tier that is genuinely usable — four matching letter templates, unlimited cover letters and unlimited downloads without paying.

Price on 28 August 2026, billed in euros: EUR 24 a month, EUR 54 a quarter or EUR 96 a year — roughly CHF 22, CHF 51 and CHF 90 at the European Central Bank reference rate of the same day. Students and teachers get Premium free on proof of status. Data is hosted in the European Union.

Best for: applications outside Switzerland, and for anyone who wants the letter and the CV to look like one designed pair. The limits are the Swiss ones: no French interface at all, prices never shown in francs, and none of the three fields a Swiss dossier turns on.

Zety

A large international builder with its own cover-letter tool and templates matched to the CV. The free tier includes the builder and the templates, but the download is a plain text file — no layout at all.

Price on 28 August 2026, billed in dollars: USD 1.95 for a fourteen-day trial, after which it auto-renews at USD 25.95 every four weeks; the annual package is USD 71.40 at once. That is roughly CHF 1.55, CHF 21 and CHF 57. This is exactly where bewerbung.ch is the better choice: it never renews by itself, and says so on every offer.

Best for: English-language applications to international employers who expect the American pattern. For a Swiss file it leaves out the same three things every international tool does.

Europass

The European Commission's tool, free with no paid tier. The editor walks you through the letter step by step, stores it in your Europass library and works in thirty-one languages. Its written guidance is short and sound: read the vacancy notice carefully, reuse its keywords, keep to one page, and structure the letter in three paragraphs — why you are applying, why you fit, why the employer fits you.

Price: nothing. An EU Login account is required, as for every Europass tool.

Best for: applying across borders, and for anyone who wants structure rather than styling. The limit is Switzerland itself: the document follows an EU convention and knows nothing about the permit line, the Arbeitszeugnisse or the photo Swiss employers still expect, and it has no connection to a specific advert.

Which one to pick

Answering Swiss adverts over several weeks: SwissJobs.app, because the letter is built from the advert and your own CV and its language is chosen per letter. A single Swiss-shaped letter in English at the lowest entry price: cvswiss.ch. An apprenticeship, a careers class, or no running subscription: bewerbung.ch — and it is the only one here with a guest mode.

The raw text and difficult sentences: ChatGPT. A letter and CV that look like one designed pair, mostly for jobs outside Switzerland: Kickresume. Applications to international employers expecting the American pattern: Zety, with an eye on the auto-renewal. Cross-border applications and a free, structured format: Europass. And if you are registered with an RAV, take the free advice before paying for any of this.

As of 28 August 2026. Prices and features change; every figure here was read on the provider's own page that day.
