What is an alternative to the Indeed CV builder?

Updated:

In short

Indeed's CV builder is free and produces a usable PDF, but Indeed's own help page says you may hold only one CV at a time, because it belongs to your Indeed profile and exists to be found rather than sent. Answering Swiss adverts, we would use SwissJobs.app instead: the vacancy and the CV editor sit on one site, so each version is drafted against the posting you picked, at CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year. Pay nothing and open no account at all, and lebenslauf.ch is the more honest answer. Checked 28 August 2026.

None of what follows is written from memory: every price list and help article below was opened on 28 August 2026. Each of the seven entries then answers the same questions in the same order — what the thing is, what it charges, whom it is right for, and where it runs out.

First, what you actually have on Indeed. Their CV page says the service is completely free; you upload an existing CV or build one there, pull it back as a PDF from the three-dot menu, and decide with a visibility setting whether employers may find you and write to you. That is the point of it — the Indeed CV is a profile meant to be discovered, not a dossier you send. The limitation follows from the design, and their help article states it plainly: you can only upload one CV at a time. A separate version per advert is not something this model expects.

For a Swiss application that limit matters, because the path to applying almost always leaves the platform. Across the open adverts we hold, the apply link points at the employer's own site in roughly 48 per cent of cases, into an applicant tracking system in a good 36 per cent, and only the remaining sixth stays on a job board. Those destinations are spread over more than two thousand different addresses, nearly half of which carry exactly one advert; the single most common destination accounts for under eight per cent, and the ten biggest together for about thirty. What reaches the employer is a file you upload, not a profile somebody browses.

And the part that catches out people relocating or commuting in: a Swiss application is more than a CV. The dossier usually carries the Arbeitszeugnisse (the written references a Swiss employer issues at the end of every job), the permit line if you are not Swiss — B, C or G — language levels stated as CEFR grades rather than "fluent", and the Pensum, the workload in per cent. It is a CV, not a resume, and two pages is normal. A builder with no field for any of that leaves you assembling the Swiss half by hand.

One thing that is true of every tool here, including ours: nobody can promise a CV gets through an employer's filter. What is checkable is the mechanism — a CV that uses the advert's own vocabulary matches a keyword-based filter better than one generic document reused twenty times.

Destination of the apply link across the open Swiss adverts we hold, measured 28 August 2026. Our index is not fed from Indeed; the figures show where an application lands, not how large any platform is.

  • The amounts, cheapest first, read on 28 August 2026: free at Indeed, at lebenslauf.ch, for LinkedIn's PDF and at Europass; CHF 5 once at cvswiss.ch; CHF 15 monthly at cvswiss.ch as at ours, with CHF 95 yearly only here; and at Zety about CHF 21 (USD 25.95) every four weeks or about CHF 57 (USD 71.40) for a year bought outright.
  • Indeed's help article argues against elaborate layouts, because plain text-based documents are read most reliably by applicant systems. That is an argument against template beauty, not for it, and it holds for every tool in this list.
  • LinkedIn's "Save to PDF" is, in LinkedIn's own words, only available to members whose profile language is set to English, supports English characters only, and is missing from the mobile app. For a German, French or Italian CV it is simply not an option.
  • Which tools still work from abroad: all of them. What does not travel is the Swiss-specific part — cvswiss.ch's export for the RAV/ORP unemployment-office form is only useful once you are registered in Switzerland, and our own index only helps if the adverts you are answering are Swiss.
  • Foreign currencies converted at the European Central Bank reference rates of 28 August 2026: one euro about 0.94 francs, one dollar about 0.80 francs.

Who to choose

With Lebenslauf Generator Von Indeed it ends at the advert. With us it starts there: the same posting produces the CV, the motivation letter, the check against it, and the entry in your RAV record.

Choose der Lebenslauf-Generator von Indeed if

  • der Lebenslauf-Generator von Indeed — the broadest aggregation, it also finds adverts that sit only on company sites.

Choose SwissJobs.app if

  • Pick the job directly — We run the job index ourselves. The advert text is already loaded, and everything else is written against exactly that text — no searching, no copying, no pasting.

  • Four tools, not one — CV, motivation letter for the same advert, a CV check against that advert, and interview preparation — one account, the same data.

  • The RAV sheet — Your job-search efforts are filled from your application tracker and printed as the official SECO form. No other tool in this comparison has it.

  • Word export, no watermark — PDF and DOCX, both clean. Many tools hand you a text file on the free plan, or stamp a watermark on the document.

  • Start without an account — The tools open without signing up. The account is asked for to save and from the second document — the first download needs none.

SwissJobs.app

A Swiss vacancy list and a CV editor living in one place. You locate the posting here, open it, and the document is drafted against that exact wording: the phrases of the advert, the Swiss layout with a photograph and the permit line, language grades from the Common European Framework, the Pensum as a percentage. Hanging off the same account are the motivation letter, the CV check and the list of applications still in play, with the interface available in four languages. What separates this from Indeed is not the template — it is keeping one version per advert instead of curating a single document.

Cost: CHF 15 monthly, CHF 95 yearly — CHF 7.92 a month if you count it out — and the first seven days are free. Without paying you can still draft and revise, capped at a number of documents each day and each week. Right for: anyone applying steadily in Switzerland who wants every application to carry the language of its own posting. Where it runs out, and this is the honest admission against Indeed: we show you to no employer at all. Indeed's CV page claims a six-figure number of employers searching there, and one switch makes your profile visible to them. That passive half of a job search does not exist here — for it, keep Indeed or LinkedIn.

Indeed

Worth saying when not to switch at all. The Indeed builder is free, quick and needs no second account if you are already searching there. More importantly it is the only tool on this list that makes you findable rather than just producing a document: set your CV to visible and employers can approach you directly, which is an application you never wrote.

Cost: free, with an account. Suits: people applying on Indeed itself, people open to being approached, and anyone who just needs a clean PDF quickly. Limit: the single CV. If you want a second version for a different job, the help article's answer is that you keep your own copies on your device — exactly the manual work a tool is supposed to remove. So the pragmatic answer is often both: leave the Indeed profile visible so recruiters find you, and build the applications you write yourself somewhere else.

cvswiss.ch

The closest Swiss competitor, and honestly with the same core promise as ours: paste a posting, the AI writes the matching CV. Their pricing page sells Swiss data protection as a feature, lists output in German, French, Italian and English, an ATS check, and an export for the RAV/ORP form. Building and previewing are free; you pay at the download.

Cost: CHF 5 once for a single document — their price page names the one-vacancy case explicitly, and the version cannot be edited afterwards — or CHF 15 monthly with no volume limit, renewed each month, cancelled in a click, with a seven-day refund window. Right for: the one application that actually matters, where five francs undercuts every subscription including ours. Where it runs out: they carry no vacancies. The posting you tailor against is one you fetch yourself, usually from a second browser tab.

Europass

The European Commission's tool, built so that qualifications and skills can be compared across borders. The editor lets you create and update CVs, choose between templates, store them on your device or in the Europass library, and share them in 31 languages. Its language section follows the Common European Framework — the same levels Swiss adverts ask for.

Cost: nothing, permanently, with no paid tier — the Commission describes the service on its own site as free of charge. Right for: anyone who has to make a foreign qualification legible, who is applying to an EU institution, or who is moving here and needs a document that reads the same everywhere. Where it runs out: this is a form to fill in, not a tool for applying. The structure is fixed, Swiss recruiters are not expecting it, adapting one version to one advert is not part of the idea, and neither the permit nor the Pensum appears anywhere in the editor.

Zety

The best known international builder in this comparison, and the natural upgrade path if what you disliked about Indeed was the plainness. Templates, phrasing suggestions, a cover-letter tool and a CV checker. Building and previewing cost nothing, but on the free tier the finished document downloads only as a TXT file; PDF and Word sit behind the paid plan.

Cost: USD 1.95 for a fourteen-day trial, then USD 25.95 every four weeks — thirteen billing runs a year, not twelve, which is roughly CHF 271 if you leave it running. The annual package is USD 71.40, about CHF 57, and is the cheapest paid option here. Suits: English-language applications and international roles where an American document shape costs you nothing. Limit: it knows no Swiss convention — no permit line, no Pensum, no place for Arbeitszeugnisse — and the four-week billing cycle costs one invoice more than most people plan for.

LinkedIn

The other platform where a CV falls out of a profile as a by-product: in the introduction section of your profile, under More, sits Save to PDF, and out comes a CV-shaped version of your profile. It costs nothing, but it asks the same of you as Indeed does — that you keep the profile current in the first place.

Cost: free, part of the ordinary account. Suits: a fast version for an English-language or international application, and anyone whose profile is more up to date than any file on their laptop. Limit, and it is a hard one: LinkedIn's own help says the feature is available only to members whose profile language is set to English, that it currently supports English characters only, and that it is absent from the mobile app. Since the clear majority of Swiss adverts are in German, French or Italian, that rules it out for most applications here.

lebenslauf.ch

A free Swiss builder operated by the staffing agency Universal-Job, and the front page states the promise in as many words: one hundred per cent free, no login needed — both of them things Indeed cannot offer you, since an account is compulsory there. Five templates are ready to use, colour, typeface and line spacing can be set, you type straight into the document rather than into an input mask, and what comes out is a PDF or a link a recruiter can reopen later.

Cost: none, and no sign-up. Right for: anyone who wants a clean Swiss-looking PDF by tonight and has no appetite for either a registration or an AI. Where it runs out: part of what the page advertises is labelled there as still to come — importing a CV you already have, attaching diplomas and Arbeitszeugnisse, and sending the application directly. Nothing here is tailored to one advert, and the interface exists in German only, which for an English-speaking arrival is a genuine obstacle.

Who should use what

No account, no money, finished tonight: lebenslauf.ch, if you read German. One application that really matters: cvswiss.ch for CHF 5. A foreign qualification to explain, or a move from the EU: Europass. English-language and international roles: Zety on the annual package, or LinkedIn's PDF if your profile language is already English. Being found rather than applying: leave the Indeed profile visible, because that is what it was built for.

That leaves the case this page is really about: a run of Swiss applications, each carrying its own version. SwissJobs.app is built for it, because the posting is already here rather than having to be pasted across. Every amount and quotation above was read on the providers' own sites on 28 August 2026; overviews like this one date fast, so check the figures before you pay.
