Where do I find the best CV templates for Switzerland?
In short
There is no official English-language CV template for Switzerland. The federal careers portal publishes free ones in German, French and Italian; its English section covers the education system instead. So for an English-speaking applicant the honest shortlist is: SwissJobs.app if you are applying to Swiss adverts and want the CV written against the advert, the German or French official DOCX if you can work through a translated form, and Europass if you are moving here from an EU country. All checked on 26 August 2026.

That absence matters more than it sounds. Almost every English-language CV template you will find through a search engine is built for a US resume — one page, no photo, no space for work references — and a Swiss dossier is a different document. Getting a beautiful template that produces the wrong artefact is the standard failure mode for people applying here from abroad.
Each of the seven sources below gets the same four things in the same order: what it is, what it costs in CHF, who it suits, and one limitation we actually found. Ranked for someone applying to adverts in Switzerland, whether they are already here or still abroad — not ranked on design quality, where several of these beat us outright.
Last checked 26 August 2026. Prices at commercial providers change quickly; verify on the provider's own page before you pay.
Counted on the portal's own CV pages on 26 August 2026: berufsberatung.ch (German), orientation.ch (French), orientamento.ch (Italian) and the English section of berufsberatung.ch, which carries education-system factsheets and no CV template.
- The federal rule for the document itself: "The CV should not exceed three pages", with "personal details with photograph", listed chronologically with the most recent first, and the whole dossier submitted as a single PDF — arbeit.swiss, checked 26 August 2026.
- A Swiss dossier is four things, not one: cover letter, CV, Arbeitszeugnisse (the written references every Swiss employer issues on leaving) and diplomas. No CV template gives you the other three.
- Two conventions that reverse what you learned elsewhere: a photo is normal here rather than discouraged, and language ability is stated as a CEFR level — B2, C1 — not as "fluent" or a bar chart.
- If you hold a foreign passport, the permit line belongs on the CV. The official Swiss models ask for it explicitly: the type of residence permit, for example B or C. No international template has that field.
- Free with no account at all: the official DOCX from berufsberatung.ch or orientation.ch. Free but you need an account: Microsoft's Word gallery, Canva and Europass. Paid: cvswiss.ch from CHF 5 one-off, SwissJobs.app at CHF 15 a month.
Who to choose
The other tools here are real and good at what they do — the table says what each is for. The reason we lead is one row in it: the job index is our own, so the advert is already there.
Choose lebenslauf.ch if
lebenslauf.ch — 100 per cent free and with no login at all, if a clean CV is enough and no account should be created.
Choose SwissJobs.app if
Pick the job directly — You choose the posting from our own Swiss index, and the CV, letter and check are written against exactly that text — no searching, no copying.
Four tools, not one — CV, motivation letter, CV check and interview prep from one account, on the same data.
The RAV sheet — Job-search efforts from the tracker, printed on the official SECO form. None of the other tools in this list has it.
Start without an account — Open it and write without signing up; the account is asked for to save and from the second document.
CHF 15 a month, seven free days first — Full access during the trial, cancel monthly, billed in francs — no four-week periods, no exchange-rate risk.

The standard any template has to meet here
Switzerland states its expectations in public, which is unusual and useful. On arbeit.swiss, the federal employment service writes that the CV "is the important part of your application", that it should "be complete, clear, contain no gaps, and not exceed three pages", and that it contains "personal details with photograph, professional experience, education/training, language skills, special knowledge, interests/hobbies, and references". Order is chronological with the most recent entry first.
Three pages, not one. If you have been told that a CV must fit on a single page, that rule came from somewhere else and the Swiss guidance does not ask for it. Two pages is the common outcome; three is allowed and normal after a long career.
The photograph is the second reversal. In the United States a photo invites a discrimination complaint and is left off; in Germany the advice has moved against it; in Switzerland the federal page lists it as part of your personal details, and the official model CVs tell applicants to use "a current colour photo with a neutral background" and not a selfie. A template that has no place for one is a template you will have to rebuild.
The third thing no international template knows about is the Arbeitszeugnis — the detailed written reference a Swiss employer issues when you leave. Your dossier is expected to contain all of them, without gaps, newest first, and everything goes into one PDF file. The CV is one component of four, and the templates below only ever address that one.
SwissJobs.app — one layout, but the CV is written against the advert
What it is. Not a template gallery. You pick a Swiss advert from our job pages and the CV is built against its actual wording, in a single-column layout with the sections Swiss employers expect, downloadable as PDF or Word. The advert is already in front of the tool because we are a job board and a CV builder in the same place, so there is nothing to paste.
What it costs. CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year, with seven days to try it. You can run the check without signing up first; payment comes at the download step.
Who it suits. Someone applying to ten or twenty Swiss adverts, in any of the four language regions, who wants each version to carry that advert's vocabulary. Also anyone applying from abroad who has never seen a Swiss dossier and does not want to guess at the conventions.
The limitation. Exactly one layout. If choosing a design is the thing you came for, Canva and the Swiss editors below are simply better at it, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We also cannot promise any applicant tracking system is "beaten" — nobody can see inside an employer's filter. The mechanism we can describe is narrower: a CV using the advert's own words matches a keyword filter better than a generic one.
berufsberatung.ch / orientation.ch — the official templates, free, in German and French
What it is. The Swiss careers portal run by the SDBB/CSFO on behalf of the cantons, with federal support. The German page carries four files — a fill-in DOCX and three completed PDF models called Aurora, Elias and Victoria — and the French page carries four of its own: a DOCX plus Julien, Daniela and Andrea. Alongside them sits a field-by-field explanation of what a Swiss CV contains, including nationality and, for foreign nationals, the type of residence permit.
What it costs. Nothing at all: no account, no email, no watermark. It is the only source here with nobody selling anything.
Who it suits. Anyone who reads German or French well enough to work through a form, and who wants the plainest possible Swiss shape rather than a design.
The limitation. Two. The pages are written for apprenticeship applicants — the German text talks about showing the training company who you are, and the models leave room for school placements rather than fifteen years of work. And there is no English version: the portal's English section is a set of factsheets about the Swiss education system, not an application kit.
arbeit.swiss — the rules in English, and deliberately no template
What it is. The federal employment service's own guidance on applying for jobs, published in German, French, Italian and English. It sets out the dossier, the three-page CV, the photograph, the chronological order and the single-PDF submission.
What it costs. Nothing.
Who it suits. Every English-speaking reader, before choosing any template at all. This is the one page on this list you should read rather than download, because it tells you what the file you are about to fill in is supposed to produce.
The limitation. It hands out no template, no example and no file. That is a deliberate division of labour — arbeit.swiss states the expectation, the careers portal supplies the forms — but if you arrive expecting a download you will leave empty-handed. Note also that registering as unemployed and recording job-search efforts is a separate matter with its own legal requirements; nothing on this page changes that.
Europass — free, 31 languages, built for EU mobility
What it is. The European Union's own CV tool: "Your free, personal tool for learning and working in Europe", with an online editor and CVs that can be produced in 31 languages once you have created a Europass profile.
What it costs. Nothing, but it does require a Europass profile before the editor will produce anything.
Who it suits. People moving to Switzerland from an EU or EEA country, especially where a qualification needs to be recognised across borders and the standardised structure helps. It also handles CEFR language levels properly, which is exactly the convention Swiss employers expect.
The limitation. Switzerland is not in the EU, and the Europass form is built around EU mobility rather than the Swiss dossier: it has no natural place for the permit line or for Arbeitszeugnisse. Its layout is also instantly recognisable, and a Swiss hiring manager outside academia or the public sector sees far fewer of them than an EU one does.
Microsoft Word — a huge free gallery, blind to Switzerland
What it is. The template gallery that used to live at create.microsoft.com and now sits at word.cloud.microsoft: "Free customizable resume templates", sorted by occupation, opening straight into Word in the browser.
What it costs. The gallery itself nothing; editing wants a Microsoft account, after which the .docx is yours to keep and edit anywhere.
Who it suits. Anyone who already works in Word and wants a file under their own control, offline and permanently, with no provider in between.
The limitation, counted on 26 August 2026. It is a US gallery. On the English page the templates are organised around American job titles and applicant tracking language; on the German version the translation is incomplete enough that names like "Bold nursing resume" and "ATS healthcare resume" sit untranslated in German sentences, ATS appears fourteen times and Switzerland not once. Useful as a design skeleton, wrong as a Swiss dossier template.
Canva — the largest selection, and the one to be careful with
What it is. A design application whose template library dwarfs everything else here, plus image editing, colour palettes and a feature that takes your CV text and a job description together.
What it costs. On its Swiss subscription page on 24 August 2026, the annual view showed Free at 0 CHF, Pro at 128 CHF and Business at 210 CHF per person per year. The free tier is entirely sufficient for a CV.
Who it suits. Designers, art directors, illustrators and photographers, where the document itself is a work sample — there Canva is the right answer without qualification. Also anyone with no design experience who wants something that looks considered.
The limitation. Multi-column layouts, text inside graphics and skill bars look good and read badly when a machine parses the file, and roughly three in ten Swiss adverts send your application into an applicant system. None of the templates is built for Switzerland either, so every convention in the first section is yours to add.
cvswiss.ch — Swiss, multilingual, CHF 5 for a single document
What it is. A Swiss AI CV tool with twelve templates you can switch between live, translation across nine languages, a cover-letter generator and, on the subscription, an export onto the official RAV/ORP form. Its home page advertises "Swiss data protection (FADP/GDPR) · Data hosted in Switzerland".
What it costs. "CHF 5 / one-time" for one watermark-free CV, or "CHF 15 / month" for unlimited documents, cancellable at any time. Building and previewing is free; the free download carries a watermark.
Who it suits. Anyone wanting one clean Swiss document today for the price of a coffee, and English speakers who need the same CV in German or French for a specific advert.
The limitation, stated fairly. Tailoring to a specific advert is their headline feature, not an extra: "Paste a job ad. AI writes your bullet points in Swiss style." We are not going to claim that as ours. The difference is narrow and worth stating precisely: there you bring the advert, here it is already in front of the tool because we hold the Swiss adverts ourselves.
Which one to pick
You want a free file and read German or French: the official DOCX from berufsberatung.ch or orientation.ch. Plainest Swiss shape available, and it is yours afterwards.
You are relocating from the EU: Europass, then adapt it — add the permit line and put your Arbeitszeugnisse behind it in the same PDF.
You want one polished document today: cvswiss.ch for CHF 5, or Microsoft's gallery if you would rather stay in Word for nothing.
Your CV is itself a portfolio piece: Canva. If you are applying for an academic post at ETH or EPFL, the LaTeX CV templates on Overleaf are the better convention for that world, free to start.
You are applying to several Swiss adverts this week: SwissJobs.app. Not because our design is better — we have exactly one layout — but because a template hands you an empty form and cannot tell you which words the advert you are answering actually used.
And the combination nobody mentions: take the layout from wherever it is best, then upload the finished file here and have it checked against a real advert. We accept PDF and Word, and the design stays yours.
Every claim about the seven sources comes from opening their own pages on 26 August 2026, without signing in: berufsberatung.ch and orientation.ch (CV pages), the arbeit.swiss job-application guidance in English and German, europass.europa.eu, the Word template gallery at word.cloud.microsoft in English and German, cvswiss.ch, and the Overleaf CV template listing. Canva's prices come from its Swiss subscription page as we read it on 24 August 2026; the page refused our request on 26 August, which is why the older date stands. Template counts were counted, not estimated. The share of Swiss adverts routing into an applicant system comes from our own continuously updated analysis of the open adverts we list; we publish shares, never absolute figures.

In short
Free and without an account: berufsberatung.ch has the official Swiss careers-guidance template as a Word file, the jobs.ch Job Coach offers four Word templates with Swiss notes, and lebenslauf.ch gives you five designs straight in the browser. Paid, with more choice: cvswiss.ch has twelve templates in nine languages from CHF 5 once, and bewerbung.ch has 16 layouts from CHF 20 for a month. SwissJobs.app has two base layouts but writes a separate version per advert. As of 5 September 2026.

One distinction saves more time than any comparison: "template" means two different things. One is a file you download and fill in inside Word — you keep full control and do the formatting yourself. The other is an editor where the CV is built in the browser and comes out as a PDF — the tool handles the formatting, and you are bound to what it can do. Anyone who wanted a Word file and found an editor is rightly disappointed.
The standard every template is measured against is the same. A Swiss CV normally carries a photo, states the residence permit for non-Swiss nationals, gives languages as levels on the Common European Framework, and expresses work as a percentage workload. A template from an international gallery has no designated place for those four things — it is not wrong, but you have to rebuild it, and the rebuilding is where the order you chose the template for gets lost.
That workload and languages are not a detail shows in the index: of 22,859 open Swiss adverts on 5 September 2026, 23.1% state the workload in the title, 58.0% of those as a range, and 20.6% of all adverts require at least two languages. A template with its own line for each saves you the rebuild.
- Counted on each provider’s own page on 5 September 2026: berufsberatung.ch 1 official template · jobs.ch Job Coach 4 Word templates · lebenslauf.ch 5 designs · cvswiss.ch 12 templates in 9 languages · bewerbung.ch 16 layouts · SwissJobs.app 2 layouts × 9 accent colours × 3 typefaces.
- Downloadable without a login: berufsberatung.ch, jobs.ch Job Coach, lebenslauf.ch. The rest want an account, at the latest for the export.
- Word file or browser editor? berufsberatung.ch and jobs.ch hand you a file. lebenslauf.ch, cvswiss.ch, bewerbung.ch and SwissJobs.app are editors with a PDF export.
- More templates is not better. Canva has thousands, none of which knows about permits, workload or language levels — choice is not a substitute for structure.

As of 5 September 2026, every figure read from the provider’s own page. "Swiss fields" means a designated place for photo, permit, language level and workload.
Template counts were counted, not estimated, on the providers’ pages on 5 September 2026 without signing in: berufsberatung.ch, the jobs.ch Job Coach, lebenslauf.ch, cvswiss.ch and the bewerbung.ch pricing page. Our own figures come from the product (2 layouts × 9 accent colours × 3 typefaces). Market figures come from our index of open Swiss adverts, queried the same day: 22,859 adverts from 3,690 employers.

Are there free Swiss CV templates to download?
In short
Yes, three with no account and no payment. berufsberatung.ch hands over the official Swiss careers-guidance template as a Word file. The jobs.ch Job Coach offers four Word templates with Swiss notes. lebenslauf.ch works in the browser, has five designs and exports the PDF with no watermark and no login. All three checked on 5 September 2026. Europass is free too, but it is an EU format rather than a Swiss one.

With the other offers the catch is almost never in the building, it is in getting the document out. One tool lets you write the whole CV and asks for an account or a payment only at the export; another lays a watermark over the free PDF. Both are legitimate and both are usually stated somewhere — just not where you look at the start. So the reliable test is to try the export before you invest an hour of work.
Free also does not automatically mean suitable. A template works for Switzerland if it has a place for the photo, can carry the residence permit, shows languages as levels on the Common European Framework and gives the workload as a percentage. The official berufsberatung.ch template does all four because it was made for this market. A free template from an international gallery usually does not, however good it looks.
And an argument against searching too long: of 22,859 open Swiss adverts on 5 September 2026 the median is 31 days old and only 24.6% are two weeks old or less. The hour that goes into hunting for a template is an hour not spent applying — and adverts keep expiring while you compare designs.
- Confirmed on 5 September 2026 with no account and no payment: berufsberatung.ch (Word), jobs.ch Job Coach (Word), lebenslauf.ch (PDF, no watermark).
- The two-minute test before the first line of work: can you trigger the export with no account and no card? Does a watermark appear? Is there a workload field?
- Europass is free, in its own words: "The European Commission provides this service free of charge in 31 languages." It is an EU format though — for a Swiss application, more a second document than the main one.
- Word is not free on your device: the Swiss Microsoft page lists Microsoft 365 Single at CHF 9.95 a month or CHF 99.95 a year. Word on the web, by contrast, can be used at no cost.
