CV check without signup — which tools are genuinely free?

Updated:

In short

Four of eight give you a score with no account. On 4 September 2026 we put the same CV through eight free checkers: cvswiss.ch returned 76 out of 100, Enhancv 71, RadarJob 62, SwissJobs.app 41 — all four with no signup, no email, no card. Resume Worded accepted the file and then showed "Create a free account to continue" before the score. Kickresume sent the upload straight to its registration page. Jobscan's free tier of five scans a month is selected like any other plan, and jobrelations.ch asks for your name, your email and two consents.

So "free" means three different things here, and the difference decides what you hand over: free with no account, free in exchange for an email address, or free only after you register. The first kind is rare. The second is the most expensive, even though it costs nothing.

What we recommend, and what we do not: for a fast, genuinely free score on a Swiss CV, cvswiss.ch is the shortest route — no account, no email, a full report on screen. If you are applying to a specific advert and want to know whether this dossier fits that job, use ours: it measures against the advert text and grades work authorisation, language levels and the photo as separate lines.

One German-language Swiss CV as a PDF, uploaded without signing in on 4 September 2026. Resume Worded, Kickresume and Jobscan returned no number at all without an account, so they are absent from the chart.

  • The test: an invented candidate, a two-page German-language Swiss CV as a PDF, the same file at each of the eight tools, all on 4 September 2026, each in a fresh browser profile with no account.
  • Returned a number with no account: cvswiss.ch (76), Enhancv (71), RadarJob (62), SwissJobs.app (41). Did not: Resume Worded, Kickresume, Jobscan. At jobrelations.ch the report arrives by email rather than on screen.
  • Resume Worded states its own reason on the wall: "Creating a free account helps us make sure you're human and prevents spammers from abusing our services." The barrier is deliberate — and it sits between your file and your score.
  • Enhancv hands over its free report without an account, but 13 of its 27 individual checks are labelled "Locked", and the four job-tailoring checks display "??%". Free here means half the list.
  • jobrelations.ch, a Zurich recruitment firm, requires a salutation, first and last name and an email address, plus consent to use those contact details for its own offers and explicit consent to send your full CV "an den Dienstleister OpenAI". A photo upload is marked as required.
  • Jobscan's own pricing page states "Free $0 forever" with "5 Free Resume Scans monthly". That is real and enough for five applications a month — it is simply a plan you select, which means an account.
  • Kickresume's ATS checker took the file and landed on www.kickresume.com/register/. In its own pricing table the checker sits among the Premium features: EUR 24 a month, EUR 54 a quarter or EUR 96 a year.
  • With us one full check per browser runs with no account. A second run from the same browser is refused with exactly that message: create a free account. After that the standalone check is not capped; generated documents are limited to 5 a day and 10 per rolling week.

Who to choose

Two of the eight will read a job advert if you paste one in. With us there is nothing to paste: the advert sits in our own index and you pick it.

Choose cvswiss.ch if

  • cvswiss.ch — twelve templates to pick from rather than one format, translation into nine languages, and a free ATS check, the closest Swiss competitor.

Choose SwissJobs.app if

  • Pick the advert directly — We are a job board and a CV tool in one: find the posting in our own index, select it, and the check measures against it. Jobscan and RadarJob also measure against an advert — you just have to find it and paste it in first.

  • Four tools instead of one — Same CV, same advert: the check, the rewritten CV, the motivation letter and the interview preparation hang together instead of living in four separate accounts.

  • The RAV form — At /arbeitsbemuehungen we fill the official SECO job-search-efforts form from the applications you have tracked. No international checker has anything comparable.

  • Word export without a watermark — PDF and DOCX, neither watermarked. With us the corrected CV is a document you can send, not a list of recommendations you still have to apply.

  • Start without an account — The check runs once per browser with no signup and the full report renders on screen. The account is for keeping it, not for seeing it.

"Free" means three different things

"Which CV check is free" has three answers, because free describes three different business models. First: free with no account — you upload, you read, you leave. Second: free in exchange for an email address, often with a marketing permission inside the same checkbox. Third: free after you register, where the result exists but the account is the condition.

They are not worth the same, and the ranking is not the obvious one. The second kind is the most expensive despite costing nothing: you hand over your name, your address and usually the permission to be marketed to. A CV is not a neutral form — it carries your employer, your education, your home town and often your photograph.

So the useful question is not "does it cost anything" but "at what point is something demanded, and what exactly". That is what we measured, instead of reading it off the marketing pages.

One CV, eight checks, one day

The test CV belongs to an invented marketing manager in Zurich: eight years of experience, written in German, two pages, PDF, with an address, a phone number, languages described in words rather than levels, and no photo — an ordinary Swiss dossier with the two typical gaps. The same file went to all eight, each in a fresh browser profile with no account and no stored login.

Four returned a number without asking for anything. cvswiss.ch: 76 out of 100, with five strengths and six improvements. Enhancv: 71 out of 100 with a checklist. RadarJob: 62 out of 100 across six criteria. Our own check: 41 out of 100 across seven graded categories. All four took under two minutes.

Three returned nothing without an account. Resume Worded took the file, asked which career level applied and then showed the signup. Kickresume sent the upload directly to its registration page. At Jobscan the "Scan Your Resume For Free" button jumped to a section of its own home page where no upload field appeared in our browser; the free tier is described on the pricing page and selected there like any plan.

And one delivered its answer elsewhere: jobrelations.ch emails the report, which turns the tool into a form and the result into a delivery.

Why 76 and 41 are not a contradiction

Thirty-five points apart on the same file looks like an error. It is not — the four numbers answer different questions. cvswiss.ch checks whether the document is built as a Swiss CV: contact details, reverse-chronological order, unbroken dates, keywords present. On that question the test dossier really is good, and 76 is a fair mark.

Enhancv checks the hygiene of the file: parse rate, format and size, spelling, repetition, section order, file name. The dossier is clean there too, and 71 is plausible. RadarJob's 62 lands between the two because it mixes both: four criteria about form and two about substance, one of which — writing impact, scored 42 — the test dossier clearly fails.

Our 41 comes out of grading something else: whether the content convinces a hiring team. Seven categories with separate scores, among them measurable results, unique selling point and motivation — and those three are entirely missing from the test dossier, because every bullet describes a duty rather than an outcome. A document can be formally impeccable and substantively pale. If all you want to know is whether the file is technically sound, the first two answer faster.

The practical consequence: a free score with no stated yardstick is not information. For every number, ask what it was measured against — the document, a norm, or an actual job advert.

Same file, two runs, two numbers

We ran two of the tools twice on the same day with the same file. cvswiss.ch returned 74 the first time and 76 the second. Our own check returned 37 and then 41. In both cases the spread is two to four points.

That is expected wherever a language model is involved, and it is not an accusation against either tool — it applies to us in exactly the same way. It has one consequence that appears on no marketing page: reading a score to the nearest point is over-reading it. What is usable is the direction and the list of findings; what is not usable is 71 against 74 as a verdict between two vendors.

Only Resume Worded explicitly promises the opposite, stating on its own home page that the same resume always gets the same score. Whether that holds we could not test without an account — the number is behind the signup.

The price that is not in francs

The free CV check from jobrelations.ch, a Zurich recruitment firm, is the clearest illustration that free is not without cost. The form asks for a salutation, a first and last name and an email address, because "Wir senden Ihnen zusätzlich einen Link zu Ihrer Analyse per E-Mail" — the link to your analysis arrives by email. So far, reasonable.

The same form carries two consents. One permits the use of your contact details "um Sie über unsere Produkte und Dienstleistungen zu informieren" — to tell you about their products and services. The other is explicit: that "mein vollständiger Lebenslauf, einschliesslich aller darin enthaltenen personenbezogenen Daten, oder mein Bewerbungsfoto an den Dienstleister OpenAI übermittelt und dort automatisiert analysiert wird" — your complete CV, including every personal detail in it, or your application photo, is sent to OpenAI and analysed there automatically. A photo upload is marked as required in the form.

It is openly declared, and the page deserves credit for that: most vendors never state which model sits behind their check. It simply shows what you are paying with — a contact, a marketing permission and a file containing your photograph and your working life. If that is too much, the three account-free checks are the cheaper choice, even though all four cost nothing.

Worth repeating is the same page's own advice to delete "alle Ihre persönlichen Daten wie Namen, Adressen, E-Mail-Adressen, Telefonnummern, Referenzangaben" from the CV before uploading it. That is good advice and it holds for every free check: what you do not upload cannot be passed on.

Free, but half of it is locked

Enhancv's checker is the most interesting middle case. It runs without an account, returns a number and a detailed report — and half that report is taped over. Of 27 individual checks, 13 carry the label "Locked": Bullets Consistency, Sections Order, File Name Check, Dates & Links, Credibility, Interview Risks, Peer Benchmarking, LinkedIn Match, Ageism & Date Bias, Employment Gaps, Career Progression, Skill Evidence, Leadership Signals. The tailoring category shows "??%" instead of a value.

This is not deception — "Unlock Full Report" sits above it, and the ten open checks are real checks with real findings. It is simply the kind of free that belongs in the count: the free report mainly shows the formal defects and holds back the judgements that would amount to an assessment of your career.

For comparison, so the rule applies to us just as strictly: in our check without an account nothing is locked. The report contains all seven graded categories, the nine readability checks, the Swiss block and the fixes ordered by urgency. What is capped is not the content but the quantity: one report per browser, then the free account.

What an international checker will not tell you about a Swiss dossier

If you are applying from abroad or have recently arrived, this is the part that matters most. Three lines carry weight in a Swiss application that no US-calibrated checker scores at all: your right to work (a B, C, L or EU/EFTA line, stated plainly), your language levels written as A1 to C2 rather than as "good" or "fluent", and a photograph. The test CV had gaps in two of those. Both Swiss checks raised them unprompted. Neither appeared in the international reports.

That is not a failure of the tools; it is calibration. Enhancv's report did not mention the missing photograph once, while both Swiss checks noted it unprompted — the same document, two opposite yardsticks. If you have moved from Germany you will know the same confusion in reverse: there the photo has become the exception, here it has stayed the convention.

Language matters twice, and this is where an arriving reader is better off than a local one. If your CV is in English, Resume Worded and Jobscan are genuinely usable, which is not true for a German- or French-language dossier: Resume Worded prints "English resumes in PDF or DOCX only. Max 2MB file size" directly above its own upload box. Our German test file was accepted anyway, and the signup wall came before any feedback about language at all — so we never learned what it would have made of it.

None of the tools in this list required a Swiss address, an AHV number or a Swiss phone number to run, so all eight work from outside the country — though RadarJob exists only in French and jobrelations.ch only in German and English. What differs is only whether the standard they measure against is the one your future employer uses.

What is free with us — and where our own page lags behind

The flow as it ran on 4 September 2026: /cv-job-fit/step01 opens with no account, you pick an advert or choose "Swiss CV standards", upload the CV, and the full report renders on screen without signing in. A line above the report says a free account will keep it. A second run from the same browser is refused, pointing at the free account.

After that the standalone CV check is not rate-limited. Generated documents are capped at 5 a day and 10 per rolling week, then seven days of full access to try everything, and then CHF 15 a month or CHF 95 a year, cancellable monthly.

One inconsistency belongs on a page about signup walls: our own landing page still said "Free · 5-sec signup needed to see your result" on the same day. The check has run without an account since 4 September; the marketing copy has not caught up. What is written here is the measured behaviour, not the page copy — and we applied that same rule to every other tool on this list.

Who each tool is right for

Use cvswiss.ch if you want an honestly free score on a Swiss CV in two minutes without handing anything over. It is the shortest account-free route in the Swiss market, it checks against local expectations, and its improvement list was specific in our test. The limitation is not a flaw of theirs: it only ever takes the CV, never an advert, so it cannot speak to fit. And the line "Most Swiss recruiters auto-reject under 80%" printed above the score carries no source — that sentence belongs to the sales page, not to the finding.

Use RadarJob if you are searching in French-speaking Switzerland and want the test in French: free, account-free, with a field for the advert, and in our test its report named exactly the weakness the dossier had. Its CV tools are the free part of a subscription that actually monitors job postings — the check itself costs nothing and asks for nothing.

Use Enhancv for the last proofreading pass before you send. Spelling, repeated words, file name, parse rate: we do not check any of that, and what is visible for free is exactly that part.

Use Jobscan if you are applying to English-language roles at large international employers and five scans a month is enough. It is calibrated to the big applicant tracking systems, which for those applications is the right calibration — it simply needs an account and bills in dollars.

Use us when you are applying to a specific Swiss advert. Then the advert is the yardstick rather than an add-on: you pick the posting from our index, the report measures against it, work authorisation, language levels and the photo are graded separately, and in the same step you can produce the corrected CV, the motivation letter for that same posting and the tracker entry the RAV form is later filled from. For an application outside Switzerland our yardstick is the wrong one and theirs is right.

The basis is a run we made ourselves on 4 September 2026: the same invented CV as a PDF, uploaded to each tool in a fresh browser profile with no account, and followed at cvswiss.ch, Enhancv, RadarJob, Resume Worded, Kickresume and SwissJobs.app either to a result or to the wall. At Jobscan we uploaded nothing: no upload field appeared in our browser on the home page, and what the free tier contains comes from their pricing page the same day. At jobrelations.ch we read the form and submitted nothing; the quoted sentences are verbatim from that page. We checked nothing behind a signup, so what these tools produce after registration is not described here. Our own figures were verified against the running application the same day and counted in the source code. Foreign currencies at the European Central Bank reference rate of 3 September 2026.
