jobs.ch vs Indeed — which finds more Swiss vacancies?

Updated:

In short

Across Switzerland as a whole, Indeed shows more. On 24 August 2026 the page title of Indeed Switzerland advertised roughly 135 thousand open positions, while jobs.ch published about thirty-six thousand vacancies for German-speaking Switzerland, roughly four thousand for the French-speaking part and 282 for Ticino. Search a specific job title and it flips: «Pflegefachfrau» returned close to two and a half thousand hits on jobs.ch against roughly 600 on Indeed. The two figures are not counting the same thing, so the honest answer is that your search decides, not the platform.

Who to choose

With jobs.ch it ends at the advert. With us it starts there: the same posting produces the CV, the motivation letter, the check against it, and the entry in your RAV record.

Choose jobs.ch if

  • jobs.ch — the biggest brand in German-speaking Switzerland, free for jobseekers and searchable without an account.

  • The biggest brand — the best-known board in German-speaking Switzerland and the largest index in the country, free and searchable without an account.

  • Salary and guidance — a salary calculator, company profiles and the Job Coach sit alongside the search as sections of their own.

Choose Indeed Switzerland if

  • The broadest aggregation — Indeed also collects from other boards and from company sites — the largest result set, at the cost of duplicates of the same advert.

  • One search box — a keyword and a place are enough; there is no language filter and no Swiss-specific field.

Choose SwissJobs.app if

  • Pick the job directly — We run the job index ourselves. The advert text is already loaded, and everything else is written against exactly that text — no searching, no copying, no pasting.

  • Four tools, not one — CV, motivation letter for the same advert, a CV check against that advert, and interview preparation — one account, the same data.

  • The RAV sheet — Your job-search efforts are filled from your application tracker and printed as the official SECO form. No other tool in this comparison has it.

  • Word export, no watermark — PDF and DOCX, both clean. Many tools hand you a text file on the free plan, or stamp a watermark on the document.

  • Start without an account — The tools open without signing up. The account is asked for to save and from the second document — the first download needs none.

That matters more in Switzerland than elsewhere, because the language an advert is written in decides who can apply to it. Of the adverts in our own Swiss index whose language we can identify, about two in five are in German, one in five in English, one in ten in French and under two per cent in Italian. A search that works in Zurich returns almost nothing in Lugano unless you change the search word into the local language — and that single change moves the result count more than the choice of platform does.

For this answer we queried both sites with the same terms and the same places on 24 August 2026 and wrote down what the result list said. Every address is listed below, so you can check each number yourself. Do not treat the last two digits as exact: the same search for «Metzger» returned 403 hits and then 408 within an hour. Stand: 24 August 2026.

jobs.ch figures read from its own result list; Indeed figures read from its page title, which rounds larger counts and reads a city name as the surrounding canton (10 904 / 19 000 for Zurich, 809 / 2 000 for Geneva, 565 / 1 000 for Chur, 261 / 1 000 for Ticino).

  • Whole country: Indeed's page title said roughly 135 thousand open positions. jobs.ch listed about thirty-six thousand for German-speaking Switzerland, roughly four thousand for the French-speaking regions, 282 for Ticino and 99 abroad.
  • English-language job titles are where the two are closest: «Software Engineer» returned just under thirteen hundred on jobs.ch against roughly a thousand on Indeed; «Data Analyst» 669 against roughly 300.
  • German job titles favour jobs.ch by a wide margin: «Pflegefachfrau» close to two and a half thousand against roughly 600, «Metzger» 403 against roughly 200, «Coiffeuse» 392 against roughly 100.
  • Every place search favoured Indeed: Zurich just under eleven thousand on jobs.ch against roughly nineteen thousand for the canton on Indeed, Geneva 809 against roughly two thousand, Lausanne 891 against roughly two thousand, Chur 565 against roughly a thousand.
  • Ticino is the widest gap of all: 261 adverts on jobs.ch for the whole canton, 84 for Lugano — against roughly a thousand on Indeed for either.
  • Language coverage differs. jobs.ch runs in German, French and English, and calling jobs.ch/it/ redirects to the German homepage. Indeed Switzerland also runs in Italian, where its homepage opens with «Il tuo prossimo lavoro inizia qui».
  • Indeed rounds the number it displays. Small result sets are exact — «Infermiere» in Ticino returned exactly 25 — while larger ones appear as flat values, and Lugano, Chur and the whole canton of Ticino were all shown as roughly a thousand on the same day.
  • jobs.ch does not match your keyword literally. Its search box asks you to describe your desired role, and the first results for «Metzger» (butcher) included a hospitality job and a kitchen fitter. Indeed's first eight results for the same word all carried «Metzger» or «Metzgerei» in the title.
  • Reading past the first page of Indeed results without an account failed in both searches we tried: the second page redirected to Indeed's sign-in. Pages two and eight of a jobs.ch result list opened without an account.
  • Neither platform is where you apply. In our own Swiss index no advert at all sends its application to Indeed, and a fraction of one per cent goes to a JobCloud brand; the rest goes to the employer's own site or its applicant system.

What each platform actually published that day

jobs.ch publishes its own volumes on its homepage, broken down by region. On 24 August 2026 that page showed about thirty-six thousand vacancies for German-speaking Switzerland, roughly four thousand for the French-speaking regions, 282 for Ticino and 99 abroad. Within the German-speaking part, the Zurich and Schaffhausen region led with just over eleven thousand, ahead of Bern with close to six thousand, the Mittelland with about five and a half thousand and Central Switzerland with roughly five thousand. Upper Valais came to 359 and the Geneva region to 870.

Indeed publishes no such breakdown. Its number sits in the title of the result page, where it read «Jobs in Schweiz | Jetzt … offene Stellen finden», with the rounded figure of roughly 135 thousand standing where the ellipsis is. The same place gave roughly nineteen thousand for the canton of Zurich, roughly two thousand each for the canton of Geneva and for Lausanne, and roughly a thousand each for Lugano, Chur and the canton of Ticino.

That last detail tells you how coarse the rounding is: Lugano, Chur and the entire canton of Ticino cannot plausibly hold the same number of vacancies. When the set is small, Indeed becomes precise — searching «Infermiere» in Ticino returned exactly 25. Read the large numbers as orders of magnitude, not as counts.

If you work in English, the two are closer than the totals suggest

The headline gap of roughly 135 thousand against about forty thousand does not survive contact with an English-language search. «Software Engineer» returned just under thirteen hundred on jobs.ch against roughly a thousand on Indeed, and «Data Analyst» 669 against roughly 300. For English job titles, in other words, jobs.ch is competitive or ahead — the opposite of what the totals imply.

The reason is how each site searches. jobs.ch has replaced keyword matching with a describe-your-role search, and its result list therefore includes adverts that never use your word. Searching «Metzger», the German for butcher, produced a hospitality role in Bern and a kitchen fitter in Hägendorf among the top results, alongside a long run of shop-counter jobs in supermarket butchery departments. Indeed's first eight results for the same word all had «Metzger» or «Metzgerei» in the title.

Neither behaviour is wrong, but they produce different numbers from the same market. A broad, related-roles list is useful if you are open to adjacent work — common when you have just moved and your qualification does not map neatly onto a Swiss job title. It is unhelpful if you want that one job and nothing else, and it means a jobs.ch count cannot be compared directly with an Indeed count.

Where you are looking matters more than which site you use

Every place search we ran favoured Indeed, and the gap grows as you move away from the German-speaking centre. For Zurich, jobs.ch showed just under eleven thousand against roughly nineteen thousand for the canton on Indeed. For Geneva it was 809 against roughly two thousand, for Lausanne 891 against roughly two thousand, for Chur 565 against roughly a thousand. Part of that is framing — Indeed reads a city name as its canton and titles the page accordingly — but framing does not explain a factor of three.

Ticino is the extreme case: 261 adverts on jobs.ch for the whole canton, 84 for Lugano, against roughly a thousand on Indeed. Indeed's first page for Lugano listed Istituto Cardiocentro Ticino, Clinica di Riabilitazione EOC, the meat processor Rapelli in Stabio, Ospedale Regionale di Lugano, Decathlon in Grancia and JYSK in Sant'Antonino — local employers advertising in Italian.

This is the point that catches people who have moved to Switzerland for a job and assume one national market. There is no such thing. There are four language regions, adverts are written in the language of the region, and jobs.ch does not even offer an Italian interface — jobs.ch/it/ redirects to the German homepage, while Indeed Switzerland runs in Italian as well. Search in the language of the advert, or the platform comparison is moot.

The second page of Indeed results asked for an account

A large number is only worth something if you can read the listings behind it. We checked how far each site lets you go without signing in. On jobs.ch, pages two and eight of a result list opened normally. On Indeed, requesting the second page of results redirected to Indeed's sign-in page in both searches we tried — «Metzger» nationally, and the Lugano place search.

This was a single request each, made without an account and without a stored session; a signed-in visitor, or one served a different variant, may see something else. As a rule of thumb for the comparison it still holds: of the roughly 135 thousand positions in that page title, one page is what you get before the platform wants your details.

Cost is not a differentiator here. Both platforms are free for job seekers and both earn from employers. Indeed's employer page opens with «Legen Sie los mit einer kostenlosen Stellenanzeige» — start with a free job advert — and sells visibility through sponsored listings billed per click. JobCloud, the company behind jobs.ch, likewise advertises «Kostenlos starten» with paid options for more visibility. Both result lists are therefore partly ordered by budget, not only by fit.

What «more vacancies» actually counts

A result count is a number of lines, not a number of distinct jobs. We can show the size of that difference in our own Swiss index, because we can look inside it. 21.7 per cent of adverts share both their title and their employer with at least one other advert. Count each title-and-employer pair once and about 85 of every 100 lines remain. One retailer alone carries the same shop-floor title more than a hundred times, because every branch posts its own advert.

The distribution behind that is far more lopsided than a result list suggests: 4.1 per cent of employers carry half of all adverts, while 45.1 per cent of employers appear with exactly one. Around four in a hundred title-and-employer combinations run in more than one town at the same time. Whoever counts is counting branches and repeats along with jobs.

Then there is the overlap between the two platforms, which nobody knows. One vacancy can sit on jobs.ch, on Indeed, on the employer's careers page and inside an applicant system at the same time. Neither company publishes how much of its inventory also sits on the other, and it cannot be measured from outside. What is certain is that adding the two numbers together overstates the number of open jobs in Switzerland.

Which one for which search

Use jobs.ch first if you are searching a German job title in German-speaking Switzerland, or an English job title anywhere: it returned more for both, it includes adjacent roles, and it adds employer reviews and a Swiss salary calculator that Indeed does not offer in this form for Switzerland.

Use Indeed if you are searching in Ticino, in a smaller town, in a border region or for small employers. There the gap is large enough to decide a search on its own, and if you search in Italian, jobs.ch has no interface in your language at all.

Add jobup.ch if you are searching in the French-speaking part. jobs.ch says so itself on its own homepage, pointing readers looking for vacancies in Romandie to jobup.ch as its platform for the French-speaking regions; both belong to JobCloud, so querying several of its brands does not multiply your choice.

And if you are registered with an RAV, the regional employment office, neither platform changes your obligations: job-search efforts are evidenced to the RAV whichever site you found the advert on, and vacancies subject to the reporting duty appear first on Job-Room, the public employment service's own portal. Wherever you find the advert, the application itself almost never goes to the platform — it goes to the employer or into its applicant system.

How to check this for your own job in five minutes

First, type the same term and the same place into both sites. Second, read the number above the list on jobs.ch and in the browser tab title on Indeed. Third — the step almost nobody takes — actually look at the first ten results and count how many are the job you want. That share, applied to the result count, is the only comparable number of the three.

Fourth, repeat the search in the language of the region: «infirmier» rather than «Pflegefachfrau» in Geneva, «Infermiere» rather than either in Lugano. On jobs.ch, «Pflegefachfrau» in Ticino returned nothing at all while «Infermiere» returned nine; on Indeed the same job in the same canton returned 25.

One disclosure: SwissJobs.app is itself a Swiss job search, and it is not one of the two options being compared here — no advert in our index sends its application to Indeed, and only a fraction of one per cent goes to a JobCloud brand. If you want a third list after making the comparison, you can search ours; it does not change the answer above.

All platform figures were queried by us on 24 August 2026: jobs.ch values from its result lists and from the regional overview on its homepage, Indeed values from the title of each result page. Indeed rounds that figure for larger result sets and shows exact values below about a hundred. Counts move during the day — the same search for «Metzger» returned 403 and then 408 within an hour. The figures on duplicate adverts, employer concentration and posting language come from the SwissJobs.app index of Swiss adverts open on 24 August 2026 and are shares of that index, never absolute counts. The observation about the second result page rests on one request per search, made without an account or stored session.
